Neither here nor there
I did get my Ploom working with ejuice fairly well. Put a little ball of filler (cotton) in the air intake side of the mouth piece add two drops of liquid, put a drop of liquid on the cake in the pod. Fired it up makes a nice warm flavorful vapor. Been using the same pod for a couple of days now, with juice.

vape it like a pipe not a cigarette.

Do you have any problems getting it lit?

If it isn't totally cooled off sometimes i do have to push the ignition switch a couple of times, but when cool it usually lites the first time.

Put the liquid on the cotton filler in the mouthpiece. Only a drop on the cake in the pod. When you draw on the device it will pull the juice out of the mouthpiece and into the pod.

I picked mine back up a couple days ago. It seemed to be producing nice amounts of vapor... Break in? So I decided to drip 2 drops in a fresh pod. Made more vapor. I have been using this thing for the past few days about half the time and the e-cig the other half. I am kind of taking a liking to it. Have not yet tried a clean pod with silica and juice only, nor have I tried refilling with juice. Original verdict was bad, now it is much better.

My only real complaint about the Ploom is the mouthpiece is so critical to the operation...but it falls off extremely easily. After only getting an opportunity to try a few pods, the mouthpiece was misplaced and I set the Ploom aside. The other day I decided to give it another chance, but right after ordering more mouthpieces* I found the original one. Excited, I grabbed a pod flavor I hadn't tried yet, made sure the Ploom had plenty of butane and put it in my shirt pocket to try in the car. ...but by the time I reached for it, the mouthpiece had popped off somewhere in transit rendering the Ploom again useless until the new mouthpieces arrive.

*When I tried to order a pair of replacement mouthpieces for $4.95, I was only given one option for shipping at $10.52, so I contacted Customer Service who sent the following:
Hi Thad:

Thanks for reaching out and for being a part of our beta program.

Mouthpiece Shipping: We apologize about this. There was a glitch in our system and you were only offered UPS as a shipping option (vs USPS which is $2.51). We fixed this and authorized a complimentary set of 2 mouthpieces for you. We also tossed in some comp pods. Enjoy.

Best,
Ploom

So +1 for Ploom Customer Service! I'm still a bit concerned about how easily the mouthpiece falls off, but I suppose being in beta this is something they could improve on in future revisions. Additionally or alternately, creating a fitted protective carrying case could really help in this regard.

I actually think that the Ploom has some very good potential in the marketplace. Being that it vaporizes actual tobacco (or non-tobacco herbal blends) in a well packaged cartidge, it isn't in danger of being classified as a medical device. The price on the pods is, IMO, a bit steep and I think it could be significantly improved by a slightly larger pod.

As it stands, the Ploom is basically a very small penstyle hookah. In its present iteration, I don't think it is "ready for prime time" as a complete substitute for smoking, but I think it has the potential to get there.
