Hi all. Some of us have been experiencing that weird burnt or strange taste when using the RoyalSmoker's CE2 R4 cartomizers. Let me start by saying I have a 3.7v RoughStack mod, and I had tried two of my 5 pack of cartos (2.4-2.6ohm version), and both vaped ok for a few mins, then I got that weird funky taste thereafter. Below is a quote from badkolo that really helped me ALOT to understand why I was getting that weird taste. I ended up not using these at all on 3.7v since my cartos were the 2.4-2.6ohm variety.

The C-E2 R4 wicks better then previous version and works much better with the 2.8 to 3.1 ohm R4. Many people experienced Bad wicking with the 2.5 ohm E2 so i would suggest the 2.8 ohm and above for 3.3 volts and 3.7 volts and 4.2 volt devices, they also work wonderfully on a variable device.

So I've been hearing alot lately about the Pyramid Tea Bag mod, and decided since I wasn't using these CE2 R4 cartos, I may as well give it a try on one of them. I followed the video last night and it was VERY easy to do. And to my surprise, this carto is now giving me probably the best vape I have experienced so far! Absolutely incredible. No more weird taste, the thing is still going strong since last night with no re-filling. It's not leaking. Gigantic plumes of vapor with 'almost' pure juice only taste. I am shocked. I want to thank badkolo, or whoever was the originator of the PTB mod "SO" much for bringing new and BETTER life into my CE2 R4 cartos!!! Thank you!!

Good luck and give it a try if you are using the 2.4-2.6 version on a 3.7v device, and are experiencing that bad taste. I no longer have the bad taste!!!

You might also take a look at the syringe and bottle mods for the CE2's. The 2.4-2.6ohm version work great in them with the extra room, in most cases.

I saw those mods too! I may try it, but I happened to have some old PTBs in the cupboard :) These things now work so well I have two PVs, one has BWB watermelon, and the other BWB Casablanca....and the plumes and flavor are amazing. It would be awesome to try the syringe mod though for the extra capacity!!!

Hi all. I wanted to update you on the performance of this. I've been vaping these two PTB modded RS CE2 R4 2.4-2.6ohm cartos for a week solid and I'd like to give an update. These things are still banging strong, but I can say that after a week I started getting a really faint underlying taste. I took the old PTB mesh out, re cleaned these very well and dry burned until the coil was visibly clean again. Re-inserted some fresh PTB mesh, but am still getting a very faint underlying taste. I've tried my juices on a fresh 510 atty, and they taste fine. After all, the directions that came with these do say to only use them 4 times and dispose :D

So, all in all, this mod works great IF you want to try to use the lower ohm CE2s with a 3.7v device...however, I wanted to make sure you all know that you may or may not start getting some off taste after a while. I must say though that the off taste is FAR less bad than the original horrible taste that you get from these with the normal wick.

GL!

Exactly. I PTB modded the day I got them and it was awesome. Now after about a week, I started getting this bad taste. I've rinsed, dry-burned, soaked in vinegar, etc. and nothing seems to get rid of the taste. Like you said, it's not near as bad as when new (and without ptb), but it is still pretty bad. It's driving me nuts.

Anyone have any ideas?

Look closely on the ends of the PTB strips, are they burned/charred? I noticed on some that they were. The coils on some cartos are close to the edge and can slightly char the PTB.

That's a good thought, man, but the edges of PTB are clean. The wick did have a couple of stubborn brown spots on it, though.

Hi all...wanted to re-update. These things are STILL just amazing. I just setup a new one of these tonight, cleaned out and new PTB. I want to mention that I dropped 40, yes 40 drops into this bad boy of some new Bluemist Caramel...and OMG...simply FREAKIN out of this world. As I was shocked with the first PTB mod, again was I tonight. Just taste nothing but pure juice flavor, incredible plumes, full lungs, perfect. I can tell you this mod BLOWS away a regular 510 atty. I can bang on one of these almost all day without topping off. And having the simplicity of a cartomizer is just awesome. I can see why people are going wild for tank mods, this is essentially a smaller version.

Some tips:

That faint undertaste I got only happened on one of the three of these I've modded. And the taste went away after cleaning and changing the PTB again. But I have two that I've never had the faint taste with. What I found today was after taking out the PTB (after weeks chain vaping and full bottles of juice have gone through it) you can simply rinse the carto out, and the key is good dry burning. Since the coil is exposed and sitting on the top, after rinsing and blowing out excess water and alcohol, you can easily watch it glow and when the "sizzling" stops, and your coil goes bright orange a few times in SILENCE, you are totally clean of any gunk etc. I also noticed there are a few wraps of the coil, and one side was getting orange first, and slowly moved to the other side. I kind of gently pushed the wraps of the coil and spread them out a bit so that the bright orange glow happens more central to the, well, center. LOL This allows better, even wicking from both sides.

Another tip is to be sure to follow the mod instructions and know that the wick runs through the center of the coil. You want to leave that, and very important, leave a little of the wick on either side of the coil. That little bit of wick on the sides of the coil is what makes contact to the PTB.

I don't know how this will stack up to a LR306 atty since I haven't ordered any yet.

Good luck, you have to try this. When it's done right, its AMAZING.
