Well I have decided to build my first mod. After a lot of
spy.gif
on other builds I have chosen to go with a dna mod. I have some soldering experience with RC builds and such, so this should be pretty straight forward. Here is a list of parts and where I purchased them.

DNA30D
(Don’t yet have this guy yet, but I purchased it from the coop round 2 by Mikepetro)

1amp mini usb charger
Amazon.com: JMT 1a Lithium Battery Charge Module Micro USB Interface: Computers & Accessories

DNA 20/30 screen bezel by Bapgood
DNA Screen Housing W-Stop 3mm by bapgood on Shapeways

Hammond 1590 BBK enclosure
Amazon.com: Hammond 1590BBK Black Diecast Aluminum Enclosure -- Inches (4.39" x 2.34" x 1.06") mm (112mm x 60mm x 27mm): Industrial & Scientific

6000 mAH Lipo battery
Gens Ace LIPO Battery 6000mah 25C 3.7V

16mm black fire switch
16mm Momentary Black Metal Pushbutton Switch with Screw Terminal Raised Top | eBay

300g tactile switches for adjustement
KSJ0M43180SHLFT C&K Components | Mouser

2 resettable fuses in parallel. 3A 6V each…
Invalid Request

Some random 22AWG speaker wire I had laying around. Keep in mind, this is the minimum size recommended by evolve. I just didn’t have any available.

Now onto the pictures. I don’t have a lot because I just now decided I would share my build with you guys!
Here I am soldering up the 510 connection. First pick is the pos pin.

Here is the screen Bezel. This thing will make the DNA screen look much nicer, especially since I can’t cut a straight line for the life of me! Cutting the acrylic was a PITA!! I may redo it again because I’m not 100% happy with it…

Here I have the fire switch mounted and a mock-up of the battery inside the case. The Gens ACE battery comes inside a hard plastic box. I separated the box and inside was 2 3000 mAH batteries wired in parallel (makes a 6000mAH battery). I desoldered the connectors that are made to work with the enclosure and soldered the 22AWG wire that I had. I then completely wrapped the batts with blue electrical tape as added protection from puncture.

This is what I have so far. Can’t wait to get the DNA 30! Supposed to be another 5-6weeks before Mike may even be able to get them from evolve...

Let me help you with that.

You should use img tags instead of url if you wanna insert pic straight to post.

Here you can see where I F'd up the hole for the charger port... Can only do so well with just a hand drill :D

The solution...

Put some heat shrink around the board, used a razor to cut a hole for the lights in the heat shrink, drilled a hole for the lights in the case, got her mounted in and hot glued down.

Not sure if i would wana heat shrink that charging board after what happen to this guy..

Doug_xx2, it worked awesome as I built it...

Until...

I tried to charge it. I had heat shrunk the charging board, and wasn't thinking. A few seconds after plugging it in (was working fine, no shorts), the wrap melted and caught fire. Fortunately, I had milled the charging port incorrectly and was charging with the cover off, so I was able to put it out. Putting my thumb on the still-on-fire board didn't work, so I sacrificed my t shirt lol. Also fortunately, the board was still 100% functional after the fire lol.

Moral of the story, don't heat shrink your charging boards.

Ok, so to test it (what else do I have to do with no DNA yet anyway, right?) I just hooked the charger straight to the battery. Put some electrical tape around the connections. I guess my plan is to leave the charger plugged in until fully charged and occasionally check the temp. Leaving the cover off for the first part. After it's fully charged, I will add the cover, without the screws and keep it like that for a bit. Here's some pics if you're bored...

Btw... With this charger, blue means charging, red means charged. Seems bass ackwards to me, but whatever.

Looking real clean. I'm gonna have to work on my building skill after seeing yours. Mine looks like a rats nest inside.

Thanks! I just received a new 1590BBK and I'm going to redo the cuts and drilling at a buddies house. He has a drill press and I think I can get everything a little more "even." So, I'm going to be doing that, and I also ordered a "micro" usb board to replace the "mini" usb board I currently have. Also ordered a micro usb bezel from shapeways to make it look flush.
