Jeez... So, I wanted to see if I've saved any money since I started vaping... I knew it was a bad idea.

I pulled out every vaping receipt I still have. (I'm positive that I missed three of them from back when I started.) Not including my fiancee, who didn't smoke more than a cigarette a day, but does vape, I'm sitting at $193 in the hole.

The positive side is that I would have given $200 to quit smoking back when I did, I can now "smoke" inside, and I now share that experience with my fiancee. I don't stink, and neither does my car or house. I have no ashtrays to empty. I also have all my startup hardware costs covered, so now all I have to buy is juice, and maybe a variable voltage ecig later. (Plus the occasional battery replacement.)

Months later, I still get that periodic craving, but it's much easier to get over now. I just pretend I'm smoking.

I'm going to use up all the less than perfect juices for the next couple of months, and then I should be back in the black. Not trying to scare newbies off; I just want to share my story. All told, it is indeed better. :)

Cheerio!

I'm sure I'm in worse shape reckoning-wise, and I still smoke a little. But if I factor in the costs of towing around an oxygen tank, which is where I was heading, it looks like an overall profit. I'm sure I'll be a non-smoker by the end of 2013, maybe much sooner.

I think you have to vape a little while before you save money because you have to cover the splurges with hardware. That being said, if you consider your new HOBBY as a hobby expense you have saved tons of money. Does the splurges with hardware ever end? I guess that depends on if you continue with you new hobby. LOL

I'd say it probably depends on how much you smoked beforehand,,,,,,and how expensive any mods, batteries are,,,

I spent 75.00 a week on cigarettes,,,,,,,,,I now spend 75.00 a MONTH or less on vaping,,,About 20 cartos a month (20 bucks) and about 50.00 in juice. I did splurge on larger batteries this month, so 50.00 there,,,,,,,I still saved. But I smoked A LOT. so the savings add up faster,,,,,,

A pack of cigarette cost $10 over here. I'm a one pack a day person.

When I returned to vaping, bought my first kit and juices, i spent about $180, figured that i'll make it back in 18 days.

I was wrong. 2 weeks down the road, I have 20 flavors of juice, 3 vivi novas, 2 carto tank mods, 3 PVs and 6 drip tips.

But really, I would rather make vaping an expensive hobby than smoking analogs.

I spend way more than I need to on vaping supplies. I just like gadgets, and resting in the knowledge that I have back ups for my back ups. That being said, it might just be under what I'd be paying for real smokes, but I don't necessarily have to. I have two vvs and and an ego, several chargers, a spare atomizer, and extra cartos. All I really need for a good long while is juice.

I always go through a beginner's buying learning curve. I did it with my sword collection, too (yes, I am a nerd, I am in love with samurai swords). I got the first "real" cheap one I found. As I learned more and more about quality in swordmaking, I moved on to the more higher end brands like Paul Chen. Now, samurai sword collecting is one extremely expensive habit. I was easily able to give it up once I got a girlfriend! ;-) Put the swords away in their bags in the closet. I only take 'em out to oil the blades every once in a while. Holy crap, I realized... I AM a nerd!!!

Agreed! I was a heavy smoker, to the tune of an average of $168 per week (gotta love computerized accounting).

I'm already close to $150 in the black. While I should order more dual-coil cartos, that's not going to cost $150!

Throw in a little DIY and the equation can start changing very quickly. What's killing me is the expense of trying to convert every smoker that I personally know. I'm giving away more new stuff than I ever used. I'm starting to think that PIF means "poor is fun"

Why in the world do you feel driven to convert people?

It's like everything in life. I can see in the beginning being a small investment, but if you don't go crazy buying all the bells and whistles, you will save money sooner than later. After all we were perfectly happy paying as much as $250 a month buying cigarettes whether we could afford it or not. We paid it then and didn't continue buying cigarette cases in different colors, or cigarette holders studded with bling.
After my initial investment when I started vaping, and the time it took me to find flavors I liked, 4 30ml bottles of juice will last me a little more than a month, that is $15 X 4 = $60 a month. Boge cartos last me about a week, sometimes longer depending on the juice: 5 pk @ $6.99. So my total maintenance cost for vaping is $66.99 a month.

Just find your preferred set up and stop buying toys, ie., get a provari instead of trying cheaper models that break down after a couple of months use. In the end you come up ahead because of its warranty. If you find the atty of your dreams, don't buy a dozen at a time, just buy enough for a month's use. Chances are that a week after you buy a dozen units, they will have come out with something better you can't live without and will order another dozen of those.

Now if you still think that you're right in buying everything in sight, then do so, I'm not being judgmental, but please don't complain that vaping is more expensive than smoking! You're the only one that makes it so.

um.. Because I LIKE them?

Not talking about strangers here, G.

Edit: That's actually a peculiar question on a forum created to help people switch form cigs to vaping. I'm a little ticked at myself for deigning to reply.

That's my problem too!
