I responded to a post about something like this a couple of years ago in the original Music Game thread, and I find myself once again curious: Where do we all source our songs from, and do any of you post songs you don’t even like, just because they fit the game?

I'd say somewhere in the range of 75-80% of my posts are sourced from my own CD and vinyl collections. I have a substantial portion of that media cataloged in a Music Collector database. While it often seems like I'm never going to get all the data entry finished, (I’ve been slowly plugging away at it for years), nonetheless it is primarily this database that I search for matching songs to post in the game.

Also, with only a couple of exceptions, I will only post songs that I like. Usually, if I'm using a song that I don't like, I'll mention something to that effect in the post.

Beyond all that, there have also been a few situations where YouTube didn't have a copy of a song that I wanted to use. So, I ripped the song, scanned the CD cover, put them together, and uploaded the video to YouTube just so I could post it in the game.

So, what's your story? :)

are you getting tired of my music? :D

i'd say i've owned more than 4,000 cds and my collection of boots is about 600 gigs. my lp collection no longer exists, but was always in the many hundreds. i've moved cross-country (NH to WA) a few times, selling or giving stuff away. i RARELY post songs i don't own or have owned, let alone like or dislike.

as i prefer live to studio, i'll post a crappy quality live vid before i'll just link the studio version. it seems harder to play the game because i'm trying to match what i see. doing a search is friggin hard enough if it's a popular word or band. the audio quality of that vid was good, but the playing kind of not so good.

i don't upload, so i try to find what i can. it was funny listening to Mark whine about not being in the RORHF! :p

i don't think i EVER posted a band or a song that i don't like (and YES, i LOVE Enya!). i lost Genya's email when microsoft shut down my old email address. there was some more recent stuff, but it got taken down. i assume that she did it, so i used what she left up.
of, course i could just as easily match a Todd/Utopia or Todd produced song to almost anything here, but i tries to give you guys and gals a break. if nothing comes to mind, i just pass.

i love acoustic jazz too, so you'll see Monk, Bud Powell, McCoy Tyner, Miles, Oscar Peterson, Ben Webster, Coleman Hawkins, RTF or any of it's members, "Pops" Armstrong, etc...i love Billie, but don't want to have to search...

i've been posting a few things from my sister's 45 collection that i used to love, My Belle Amie! hadn't heard that for years! Hair and some other stuff i have yet to spring. i used to flip the 45s over, so there are some B sides that i like better than the A sides. (no one told me i wasn't supposed to do that!)

it would take a few pages for me to discuss my music.

i tend to like stuff that isn't considered mainstream or cool. i only care if i like it. (i haven'y even heard of 3/4 of the stuff i see others post.) i do take the time to try to listen to some of Kelli's stuff because a lot of it has deeper meanings than most. i like some of her favorite stuff, so i'm more willing to give her stuff a test run. she got me to listen to Patty Griffin, Patty blows me away. we both like Lucinda, as well. that last "quirky' thing she posted was kind of entertaining.

hope that helps!

cocoon of lunacy
i was going to post soon that i am having more and more trouble playing this game, because my supply of songs is becoming exhausted. almost all the songs i post are from my mp3 collection, of which i have about 5,000 or so....but after awhile, i find that most of them have been used....either by me or others. so if i want to keep playing, i have to wait for the occasional one in my collection that hasn't been used or look elsewhere. and, if they are on my hard drive, i usually like them. :) sorry, my explanation is not nearly as involved or interesting as you guys'. :p
