    in a cave, eh?
I made up a big list from looking for lists of interesting stuff on the internet. Supplemented that with stuff from my iTunes. Added a few Canadian bands, music I discovered on Last.fm, BoingBoing.net, YouTube, etc. Pulled some of the classical stuff from sheet music I collected. Haven't really gotten into the CD collection, yet. I still have a bunch of LPs I haven't tried sharing. Well, now I feel old.

as i prefer live to studio, i'll post a crappy quality live vid before i'll just link the studio version. it seems harder to play the game because i'm trying to match what i see. doing a search is friggin hard enough if it's a popular word or band. the audio quality of that vid was good, but the playing kind of not so good.
For most bands, I feel exactly the opposite way! In probably 95 out of 100 cases, I strongly prefer studio versions of songs.

i tend to like stuff that isn't considered mainstream or cool.
I think that applies to most of the folks playing this game, really. The mainstream stuff that I like tends to be music that was mainstream 35 to 45 years ago or so. Not that I like all of that era's popular music, but some of it has stood the test of time in my mind. And really, what is and isn't "cool" couldn't be more subjective. :)

i was going to post soon that i am having more and more trouble playing this game, because my supply of songs is becoming exhausted. almost all the songs i post are from my mp3 collection, of which i have about 5,000 or so....but after awhile, i find that most of them have been used....either by me or others. so if i want to keep playing, i have to wait for the occasional one in my collection that hasn't been used or look elsewhere. and, if they are on my hard drive, i usually like them. :)
Well, if you're not averse to posting songs that aren't in your collection, you could go to allmusic.com, search on a word or phrase, then select to view only the song or artist results. It's not the best search engine in the world, (for example, for some reason keywords that are part of artists' names tend to be included when you choose to view song results; if you search "brown," and view the song results, in addition to songs with "brown" in the title, it will also show you all of James Brown's songs), but it can be a handy resource nonetheless.

sorry, my explanation is not nearly as involved or interesting as you guys'. :p
Don't sell yourself short, kelli. :)

    Thanks for the replies, guys!

i'm always surprised when something appears that i thought would have been posted long ago.

caffeinated, what part of NH are you in? i'm from Nashua.
That Zeppelin tune was an easy search though: custard. :D

I live right across the river, in Hudson.

Edit: Oops - prematurely posted. I swear, this has never happened to me before... :p :D

    lolol (it's an MBV thing)

i worked for Loretta and Clayton at The Blue Whale on Lowell Rd back in the early 80s. (i worked at Green Ridge Turkey Farm, when it existed)

most bands don't make a nickel on records. in fact they lose money. record companies are crooks. if a band wants to survive, they have to know how to play. playing live is actual music. a lot of studio stuff is not what the band sounds like, it is them being taken into slavery.

when Rock Bottom was on Main St in Nashua, a guy named Danny worked there. he got me into bootlegs. when i walked into the store, he would hand me a bunch of stuff to check out. he was usually right. i would always bump into him a Todd shows.

Charles Laquadira, on The Big Matress, was my source for new, non-Todd stuff. Genya Ravan's Junkman was a "Big Mattress Song of the Week". if you listened to WBCN, they never used Todd's last name. everyone knew who he was, so they would just say, "that was Todd"

moving to Seattle was not good in terms of radio. you had to go see the bands. bumpershoot was a great place to see them. but radio out here. bites the big one. i haven't listened to radio since 1985. i used that rime to get back into jazz, especially Monk.
