The threading is starting to feel really gritty/rough on my Provari...

You should do monthly maintance of applying Noalox on the threads, give it a little time to work by turning the cap on the Provari back and forth, and then removing both the Noalox and the grime until the metal looks like new. An old tooth brush will assist with this.

Not only does it keep them working "buttery", but the black gritty matterial in the threads is actually the natural oxidation of the bare metal (not unlike rust) which could cause the threading to lock up if not attended to.

The oxidation buildup can also affect the conduction of the batteries, as the Provari depends upon the metal to metal contact of the battery cap to properly ground the electrical process. Any buildup of this oxidation can interupt this and cause the Provari to stop working.

oh wow, this is VERY helpful. thank you, i did not know the black stuff was oxidization. I assumed it was dirt. Will the oxidization actually damage the threading or is it just a gritty sensation it gives?

Oxidation is literally rust. A breakdown of exposed metal from exposure to oxygen. Like I said, if left allowed to continue, the threads could lock up making it difficult to impossible to remove the battery cap. But before that would happen, the break in electrical conduction would cause the Provari to stop working.

some guy on nuvapors posted this about Noalox.... is it true that Noalox can wear down the threading?

Here is my two cents and it may piss people off but you have been warned. If you do not want the wool to be yanked from your eyes then skip this post entirely.

Noalox is useless in my opinion unless you are using an aluminum mod and even then I think it is pointless.

Noalox does not contain any electrical enhancing properties at all. It is designed to keep aluminum electric connection points from becoming oxidized and corroded.
Having used Noalox on the past before I was a vaper let me tell you about the downsides to this.

Noalox has particles like zinc suspended in the paste, this acts like sand paper on threaded connections. while it may keep you thread from oxidizing it also takes metal away as you twist the cap on and off so eventually your threads will be worn down and loose.

Noalox attracts dirt like a magnet and will gum up amy moving connection like a mod battery cap.

Noalox over time dries out and become quite hard and is a pain to clean up.

These three reasons alone should be the ones that send your tube of noalox to the trash can unless you are wiring a house with aluminum wire.

There are several ways to lubricate the threads of you mod with Vaseline being about the cheapest and easiest to clean of all of them. Oh and it does the same thing as noalox by coating the threads with a petroleum based product you inhibit the corrosion effect. Not that I have seen a corroded mod yet though.
