I've been reading and watching some pretty impressive reviews of the new Ali'l from R&M, but it's tough to place an order. They've been Out of Stock for a while, and it seems that when they open up for orders, you've got to be right there online to get in before the quota gets snapped up.

On the other hand, the new UMP from Mr. Puffer is available and even a tad cheaper than the Ali'i. It's nice looking, and it's variable volt (which the next generation of Ali'i will also be.)

There's not much info on the UMP out there. Anyone have any thoughts on it? I'd wait for the Ali'i VV if it's really going to be all that much better than anything else on the market, but if the UMP is a pretty solid contender, I might just go with that.

YouTube - UMP FROM PUFFTRONIC.COM REVIEW

To summarize, he liked the unit, but he had a problem with the juice leaking all around the inside of the unit. He has also reviewed the Journeyman (the earlier version of the Ali'i), where the only slight problem was the wooden cover was a little warped. I haven't heard much, if anything, bad about the Journeyman, or the new model, the Ali'i. But, we don't know when the variable volt Ali'i will be ready, or how it will perform once it is out. I have full confidence in Kaji though, so I know it will be fully tested and ready to go when it is released. I can't wait for the Ali'i, and hopefully will get in on the first pre-order.

If you need a VV now, I have heard great things about the Buzz, and good things about the UMP, with the leaking being a negative. Maybe Grimm got a bad unit, don't know. But if I had to pick, I would wait for the Ali'i.

Ali'i is a sharp looking unit...been checking it out myself. I think 1st orders have already been taken, however. My only concern with it is being careful not to damage the wood, i.e. having it outside while working in the yard, dropping and having the wood crack, etc.

Don't know much about the UMP. Sorry.

Another bottom juice feeder option would be the REO. Currently Robert is making the REO mini's.

I would not buy the ump for the reason of customer service. Emailed twice and got no response at two week intervals .Would think its going to be a problem getting things fixed this way when something goes wrong. The site had no product for a month except for a few disposable 510's and right now has only 4 umps available not the mr puffer. My guess is when the four umps are gone you wont get an email response no matter what you do.Just my thoughts good luck.

That confused me right off the bat too, bones. That was one of the main reasons I didn't get too serious about it. I was hoping it would be smaller.

The REO does work with cartomizers. The new mini REO has a native 510 connection and I think he's making some with 901 connections too.
The only thing I don't like about the new Reo is the finish (unless I'm misunderstanding, it appears to be a metal). Rob's quality of worksmanship is legendary so I'm sure it's a well made piece of equipment. I don't want to say it looks like "just another box mod", but there was a beauty in the wood that really made it stand out. I think that's a large part of why the Ali'i appeals to me. I'm hoping that once production on the first run of the mini-Reo's winds down, he may start experimenting in a wood version.

I think that's enough to hold off on the UMP for me. Looks great, but I can't deal with leaks.

Thanks for the link.

I am a HEAVY vaper and I do not thinbk that I go through much more than 3 mls in a day. I have heard that the battery life on the Ali'i is not going to be good if that is important to you.

How do you figure on this? The battery can be an 18650 and that would last over 24 hours easily with a normal 510 atty. Where have you heard that the battery life on the Ali'i is not going to be good? Please tell me?....I've used many 18650 mods and it's all I can use now. What makes the Ali'i different?

OK, so now I'm thinking Wetbox. For an initial foray into box mods, $50 is a pretty good price, despite mixed reviews on long-term reliability. Might be worth it, and if I like the whole bottom fed juicer concept enough, I'll be more inclined to fork over the cash for an Ali'i (if I ever get a chance - the hassles of handmade: quality, but at a price and with loooong wait times.)

It's done. Ordered a Wetbox from Nhaler and it's already shipped. With the shipping, batteries, charger, drip tip, and extra carts, it was under $90 (including a 10% off coupon). Even if it only lasts a month, it's still cheaper than a carton of analogs. And if I like the bottom-fed mod style, I'll jump on an Ali'i as soon as the variable volt model comes out.

Should be an interesting experience, shifting from my trusty RN4081 and less-than-trusty L88b models to this one. I have to say, I am pretty darn psyched about being able to leave all my paraphernalia home when I go out. Refilling's not my favorite activity.

These are the exact reasons I bought a Wetbox in the first place. It's a good start into box mods. Just be careful of the switch. Mine took a dump about three weeks after I bought it. Pretty easy to replace but you have to get another one. Madvapes has them if you run into that problem ACM. I used mine for over a month before I decided I could wait no longer for a nice wood mod and I got in on the preorders for the Ali'i. The price is steep, especially because it comes with no batteries or attys, but I cannot say enough about the quality and craftsmanship. I can change from 6V to 3.7V easily. 6V on a 510 atty kicks my .... unless I use a 50/50 mix for juice. I can't see myself going back to carts or cartos. 6ml of juice lasts a long time and the 18650 battery lasts me two days of decent vaping. Enjoy the Wetbox when it comes. It's a good unit for the price IMHO.

Thanks for the info and advice, Rebel. I got the Wetbox today (ordered on Sunday - that's pretty fast), and I like the looks of it well enough. I can't say it looks super durable, but $50 is $50. I hope to get more than three weeks out of it, though. Ideally, I'd like to get at least six months, in order to be able to eventually get on the Ali'i bandwagon. At least I got a battery charger with it, and it will charge Ali'i batteries, so THAT expense is already taken care of.

Now all I have to do is wait for the batteries to charge. In the meantime, I had to break out my old L88b model, since I left my trusty RN4081 at work. Bleh...
