Seriously though, I don't understand why, if they're receiving so much hate for trying to ban sales on ciggys and such, they would even TRY to get this passed. It seems obvious that people won't stand for their right to choose their own death being taken away, and if they think people are ...... now just wait until they don't have any nicotine in their systems!

Because they're convinced they're on the side of the angels on this one, and when someone is convinced that they're 'doing the right thing,' there's no stopping them with common sense.
What worries me is that someone is going to run out of nicotine and send them to meet those angels they're supposedly on the side of.... I guarantee there's at least one psycho out there who will take things WAY too far.
In their proposed tobacco ban the town not only seeks to include e-cigs, but candy cigarettes and bubblegum cigars as well. I guess their logic is to ban the sale of anything that remotely looks like a tobacco product or that resembles the act of smoking rather it's harmful or not. In all the testing and research that has been conducted trying to find some form of health hazard associated with vaping the only thing the FDA has been able to come up with is to insinuate vaping could be a stepping stone to "smoking" tobacco. If that line of logic is valid, I suppose we should also conclude drinking water is a stepping stone toward alcoholism. Don't laugh, there's actually more science supporting the water/alcoholism link than there is supporting a vaping/smoking link. After all, empirical data will evidence that every single occurrence of alcoholism was preceded at some point in time by that individual drinkingwater.

The problem is that so many people see their right to do their thing as important, but see plenty of good reasons to stop other people doing their thing. One lot wants to ban guns, the other lot wants to decide who you are allowed to marry. And they both see themselves as righteous and the other lot as intolerant.
Smokers are a minority, we are a much smaller minority. Who's going to stand up for us? I've written to politicians in my State. I should join the organisations fighting for vaping rights, feeling a bit guilty that I haven't done that yet.

I like the one guy that sees what this is, truly. He hates smoking, the smell. Thinks everything about it is disgusting yet still thinks what this "Health" department is doing is more disgusting. They are trying to take away Freedom Of Choice.
If I remember correctly, EVERYONE who spoke AGAINST the ban at the selectmen's meeting a few days earlier were NOT smokers, interestingly enough. Massachusetts has a fairly low % of smokers compared to some parts of the country, yet our local newspaper poll showed 70% of respondents AGAINST the ban.
One would think that they would realize even before the shortened public meeting that most locals believed they'd overstepped their authority.
