I am fascinated by the popularity of slingshots/catapults in the UK.
Why? Those are just about the only "projectile weapons" allowed, so anyone who wants to participate in "target practice" has little choice.

I would be way out of turn to answer that one definitively (Rixy, can you?) but when I was there, very few owned these because they had to be kept locked up at "clubs" (the sharp pointy bits were considered to be too dangerous for the average citizen to possess). Not something you could just go out in the back yard to shoot. They did allow single-shot air guns, however. Don't know if they still do. (Rixy?)

Oh yes, probably because guns aren't legal, a catapult can be a silent, deadly weapon, especially if your firing ball bearings

What about the long bow?
Hmm, not really very popular here..

No airguns unless it's a club, even carrying a catapult can get you arrested but the thing about those, they fit in your coat pocket..

While I have never created or used a catapult (who'd want to pult a cat?) ;), I did grow up with slingshots. With the right projectile (we didn't have a lot of ball bearings, but glass marbles were very easy to come by), I have killed a lot of rodents. And yes, "you could put an eye out with that thing." (OK, Atcha, what movie?)

Without it, we might all be speaking French!

The black widow ones with a 10mm ball bearing can kill a man if hit in the right spot.

She better know this one. But the correct quote is "You'll shoot your eye out"

We're obviously thinking of different movies, but let's go with the one you're quoting because the little idiot almost did shoot his eye out...
(mine might have been X-rated anyway and we all know our sweet little Atcha would never watch one of those. :D )

Interestingly, Google finds nothing for yours, nor do I recall it. But I'm guessing when I figure it out I'll feel stupid for not recognizing it, and for assuming you were misquoting a different movie. Oh well.

    Of course!
Ummm, OK, not really, believe it or not, I've never seen that movie. I know, terrible thing to admit.

Lannie says I misquoted it too. I remember it as "you could put an eye out with that thing" and she says it is "you could put an eye out with those." Anyway, here's a hint and see if anyone remembers the line and which one was right (if either or both, but not in the same scene - this is the scene Lannie was referring to).

I suspect Kad probably got it right (or closest anyway). Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. The line I was remembering was someone swinging a bucket near her, but who knows what goes on in the oldt guy's memory these days... It probably was Patty's pointy extremely padded bra...
