Thermchromic battery tester?

I was thinking about the test strip that Duracell used to have on the side of their batteries, and did a little searching. I came across a cheap test strip, although the voltage is not quite right.

I wonder if these could be cut or modified so that they would measure different voltage like 3.5 or 5 volt ranges.


Anyone have comments or ideas?

If you want to use a strip tester like the one that used to come with some AA batts (and you can find one), use a resistor divider to put it in the range it needs. For example, if you wanted it to read full scale at 4.2V, you could use a 6k and 10k resistor. You wouldn't be able to solder wires to a strip tester, but you could probably figure out a way to clamp it in. Conductive wire glue might work. It would need a switch since you wouldn't want it on all the time.

I think you also could connect this tester (1.5 volt) with a zener diode in series. 2.7 volt diode would be perfect. In this case your tester will show real charge.
