In my time I have visited many doctors. A few of those doctors used to love pushing certain name-brand medications on me (including one doctor who tried to tell me I needed to take medication that I really didn't need).

Just because you put a Dr. in front of their name does not mean they have integrity or morals but people always think they do.

I lost all respect for the good Dr. a few years back when he made some statements to the effect that people who smoked should be refused health care for any smoking-related illnesses they developed.

Must have left his Hippocratic Oath behind when he made it to Hollywood.

whoa, really? I guess by that logic then people who live in polluted cities, eat junk food, fatty food and are overweight should be denied health care also then, as well as those with dangerous jobs, etc.

there is so much wrong with his little article up there that I don't even feel like taking the time to point it all out, we all know how full of s**t he is anyway after reading that.

I suppose he's all for the pharma ways to quit, even with the side effects of pills (recently tried zyban and went off it now due to crazy side effects), and so also by his logic then nicotine gum and patches are dangerous too.

All over the place
What does Dr. Oz think he's doing anyway? E-juice is the greatest invention since wine or cheese. People will be discussing it and reviewing it for centuries to come. This is only the beginning and Dr. Oz wants to be the dolt who poo poos it all right from the start? What a doofus.

Maybe if ecigs (nicotine) could be considered a "supplement," Dr.Oz would be all for it? Probably. He recommends supplements all the time and that industry is not regulated by the FDA. That's it! Nicotine is a supplement. LOL

p.s. These statements have not been approved or evaluated by the FDA.

I didn't know nicotine was a carcinogen as is stated in that article, I'm pretty certain it is NOT. I'm also pretty certain there are no other carcinogens in plain ejuice, that being nicotine with pg and vg. How he can state anything is beyond me when he points out that "no studies have been done" to support anything he claims!

I used to think others needed a tin foil hat, now I'm wishing I had fitted one for myself years ago!

Nicotine is definitely not a carcinogen. The pharmaceutical grade nicotine that is used in NRT products (patch, gum, lozenge, Rx inhaler, and nasal spray) is identical to the pharmaceutical grade nicotine used in e-cigarette liquid. Pharmaceutical grade nicotine is extracted from tobacco, and therefore may contain harmless traces of Tobacco-specific Nitrosamines (TSNAs).

In 2009 when the FDA issued their infamous press release about testing 18 samples from two brands of e-cigarettes*, the gifted spin-doctor Dr. Joshua Shafstein focused on the idea that e-cigarettes contain carcinogens, leaving out the very pertinent fact that the quantity FDA detected was no higher than that found in nicotine patches and gum.

There are no cancer warnings on FDA-approved nicotine products because there has never been a case of cancer linked to use of those products. So if 8 nanograms of TSNAs in a patch doesn't cause cancer, why would an identical 8 nanograms of TSNAs in e-liquid cause cancer? The answer is, it wouldn't.

Smokeless tobacco (ST) products contain much higher concentrations of TSNAs than 8 ng, yet nicotine toxicology expert Dr. Neal Benowitcz testified at a 2010 FDA hearing "The lack of increase in common cancers in lifelong ST users indicates that nicotine is not a general cancer promoter."
http://www.fda.gov/downloads/Drugs/NewsEvents/UCM232147.pdf

*Despite the fact that there were dozens, if not hundreds, of companies selling e-cigarettes, the FDA chose to test only samples from the same two companies that a few months earlier had filed a suit against FDA product seizures in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia. Merely a coincidence? Yeah, right!

People don't mind being on the wrong side of an argument if they're on the right side of the money. You can bank on it.
