Comes to mind that a 'not really such a good idea' thread could be useful here:

This is not meant to be a thread for havin-a-go at anyone or
anyone's idea(s),
- just a mention of techniques that are generally not so keen, or fairly obviously doh!
- or proven to be high on the oh-oh, bugger radar.

No. 1 : Acetone (& probably ethyl-acetate = nail polish remover)

No. 2 : Dripping strong acid onto a heated coil down a tube, that you're likely to peer down,
to see how it's getting on & breathe the acid fumes.

No. 3 : Trying to vape an atomizer after boiling in hot caustic & hoping it washes out properly
(like I did = almost no draw at all, probably luckily).

No. 4 : Trying conc. sulphuric acid (like I did),
which reacted with the metal mesh, & getting an orrible rotten egg-smelling black mesh (eeew).

any others?

I'm not one for people telling me what not to do - I'm going to try the dripping acid on the hot coil thing when I can and have the need.

The trick is to not be an idiot when doing it i.e. looking down into the tube of hot sizzling acid with your naked eye. It's not a bad idea as a treatment, it's just a bad idea to try to watch it work.

I've been wondering if the fizzy type denture cleaner tabs might work....but since I'm down to one atty I'm too chicken to try it
Don't bother, they don't work.

Aye, that's seems to be the way of it atm,

Anyone tried Kryptonite yet?

Hey buddy seeing as how in order to produce kryptonite one would need to split a U235 atom which from what I understand releases enough energy to lift 16 tons straight up 1000 feet in less than a second it might not be something one would want to do indoors and what do you suggest we do with the plutonium that is left over? Last thing I need is to be transported to Guantanamo bay in Cuba and water boarded. Because I really doubt they are gonna believe the story that all I wanted to do was clean my E-Cigarette atomizer. (rolling around laughing myself silly!!!!!!!)

Actually just buying the various cleaning chemical has given rise
to strange & suspicious looks from the pharmacists & other staff:

Can I have a bottle of:
ammonia,
hydrogen peroxide,
acetone,
alcohol,
VG and PG,
please?

Q: What's all this for ?
A: for cleaning my electronic cigarettes
Q: your what?
A: You've not heard of them then
Q: No

It's actually possible the staff have been told to 'play down' the
existence of e-cigs ?,
cos I'm pretty sure I told them about them last time I got some VG there.

So that's what all those guys in those cars are doing,
I wondered why one of them asked me if I had any relations in Afghanistan.

SpaceCadet, afaik straight ethyl alcohol doesn't seem to do much anyway
(to remove the gunk), might freshen the metal mesh though.
Surprised it left a taste.
Personally I prefer to use Vodka (with my Coca-Cola).
