think i screwed up

so I've had a bad taste with this 510 since day one, thought it was the juice so tried 4 other bottles. Still there, so I was looking in the addy and I saw something funny, looked like a fuzz under the U shaped thing over the element, so I went to fish it out, and it came out this long string looking thing, is that supposed to be in there? It smelled relly nasty, thats where the rotten taste was comming from, but I think maybe it;s suppose to be in there for a reason, but dont know. Anyway I pulled it out. Did I screw up?

If they atty is still working, you're probably OK. Have spare attys on hand, just in case.

That was the wick; if it gets dry, it burns and creates a nasty taste. Many members have successfully removed the wick and their attys work fine.
