Thinking about getting into DIY

Hi everyone,

I was thinking of getting into DIY so that i dont spend so much on juice. I will always buy my favorites but i definitely want to try out DIY.

The juices i vape are usually 80vg/20pg or 100vg since i have a slight intolerance to PG.
Recently i have cut down to 6mg.

I personally like Cheesecakes, slightly mentholated fruit, custards, cinnamon donuts/churros and the occasional tobacco

So i was hoping to get some good advice from experienced DIY-ers about where to get the best flavors (especially since there are so many different companies to get different flavors from) and possibly some recipies to try out once i get some supplies.

Thank you in advance!

PS. sorry if im asking a question that a lot of others have asked but after going through all the other threads, im getting confused and over-whelmed with the amount of information.

So i was hoping to get some good advice from experienced DIY-ers about where to get the best flavors (especially since there are so many different companies to get different flavors from)

Um...What's "best"? I like Lorann's Pina Colada. I like Capellas Sweet Tangerine. I like TPA/TFA's Blueberry Extra. I like Flavour Art's Dark Vapure. I also regularly use flavorings from 5 other sources. Take Coconut, since nearly everyone makes one called Coconut... My favorite Coconut is from Capellas. There are mixers who I respect highly that say the best is Flavour Art's, and others who say it is TPA/TFA's, and still others who say it is Lorann's. And every single one of us is right.

...and possibly some recipies to try out once i get some supplies.
There is a whole sub-forum to this sub with just recipes. Each thread has at least one recipe. I'll bet that would be a great place to use the Advanced Search feature with keywords of the flavor(s) you're interested in. And MUCH better than anything I would plunk into this thread like 15% Capella's Sweet Tangerine. (Easy to make and great flavor, but not in your list of likes.)

To learn some stuff about mixing and to continue and/or resolve your information overload, there are mixing blogs by weird mixing folks that go by the names of "dannyv45" and "Hoosier" who have typed out some good information that is very applicable. It's like a crash course in Mixing 101. Might look up those jokers and see if you can find their blogs?

I myself love tobaccos and some desert recipes. I love hangsen tobaccos and I mix them at 7 - 9%. Others look at me like I'm crazy because they choke on it when they mix it at 5%. Then I tell them "Oh I forgot to tell you that I love STRONG tobacco taste". I found this great sounding coconut recipe that I just had to try because it made my mouth water and when I mixed and tried it I gaged. But others that have tried it raved about it. So as you have likely gathered by now you just have to dive into it and try many many mixes and flavors until you come up with something that works for you.

What I can help you with is getting started. Read the following.

Read my blogs before getting started

E-Cigarette Forum - dannyv45 - Blogs

then read hoosier's blogs.

E-Cigarette Forum - Hoosier - Blogs

then read the stickies at the top of the page.

this will explain a lot of the how's and why's.

I recently started making my own liquids. Here's what I did (and Have had great success) . I bought my PG and VG off of Amazon Got Lorann Oils off of Amazon , Got syringes off of Amazon. Use the color coded guide on this site to determine what Lorann oils are safe. I'm sure you have seen it since it's in the same section this was posted. I already had bottles from saving old ones. I ordered Liquid Nicotine from RTSVapes , click here to get to the page. . I also ordered pipettes (found out they aren't necessary if you get syringes) and a few more flavorings from them as well. I ordered the smallest bottle of 36mg nicotine from them and I am almost out now after making 12+ bottles at 6mg. I still have tons of PG and VG left as well as most of my flavorings. Use the liquid calculator you can find in a thread on this site and start making mixes and experimenting. I have not made one mix that I don't like (or wasn't able to fix). If you like menthol, just remember a tiny bit goes a long way. My one mess up was due to overwhelming menthol taste. Fruity flavors are super easy to mix as long as you don't go too crazy IMHO.

It didn't cost me much to get started. My first order from RTSVapes included 5 flavors, pipetes and 60 ml of 36 mg Flavorless Nicotine Liquid - Vegetable Glycerin Grade for a total of $28.36 . My Amazon orders all had free shipping. Glycerin Vegetable Kosher USP - 1 Quart were $13.47 , Propylene Glycol 1 Quart was $10.95 , LorAnn Hard Candy Flavoring Oils 10 Pack YOU PICK THE FLAVORS was $15.49 , six syringes were $6.99 . I already had the bottles and some gloves at home, so I didn't need to buy those.

All in all, it cost me $75.26 to get started
and I have way more flavors than I really needed at first and haven't even opened some of them. After making 12 + bottles ( I lost count. I know I have sat down and made them 3 times and each time it was 3-6 bottles), the only thing I need to replace is two flavors and my nicotine. I've barely made a dent in the PG and VG. This time around I'm going to get the 120 ml of 60 mg Flavorless Nicotine Liquid from RTS for $15.95 . My nic level is 6mg and I do flavors at 10-12% since most of mine are fruity and I like them at that level. I've already saved SOOO much money.

.listen to Hoosier and Danny. - that's the best advice I could give also..
Those 2 fellows got me started and bailed me out when I had the occasional
problem.. and now that I am pleased with what I create, I still follow along
here and make the occasional note for maybe future use..

You have gotten a lot of great advice from some experienced DIY'ers. The best thing you can do is take some time to read up on all the different post and blogs in here and let your taste buds get back to somewhat normal. This way you will not waste time trying to figure out flavors when your taste buds are out of whack.

I would recommend most of the same items usually, but after a couple of months ago the one thing i would recommend is make sure the device you are using is giving you the cleanest flavor. I found out after trying cotton for wicks that the flavor was much better compared to silica. Now i am currently using degummed hemp fiber and it is much better than cotton, and i cant believe i will find anything better. Now some flavors that didnt taste good before taste much better now due to the materials used for wicking the juice.

Hope this Helps and you have good luck in the Laboratory!!! :toast:
