I have been suffering from asthma, brochitis and pneumonia off and on for a few years from smoking cigarettes for over 20 years. I have two inhalers and on steriods consistently, and frankly I AM SICK OF IT! I have lessen my cigarette intake from 12 to 6 per day, broke habits like smoking in car and taking cigarettes to work, and I purchased a eViv to help with the edge. But I am preparing mentally to vape 100%- still alittle scared. I use a 24mg nicotine juice which is strong especially when I vape at 4.0v so 3.0 works better. Forgive me if I am not speaking the vaping language. The guy at the smoke shop doesn't know much.

I am very new to this community but I need advice like how often do I change the atomizer? What's a good liquid to start with? For previous heavy smokers, what helped you transition to vaping 100%? Need to make healthier, life changing decisions.

I was lucky to be in a town with a local shop that is a little popular for their liquid, j-vape's..and a pink spot shop was right by it. I had good juice, a carto tank, and a variable voltage battery. I was constantly around smokers, and the place I was in would give me $100 a week for whatever I needed at walmart. It took me about a month of vaping that setup to completely stop smoking. I just had to prefer vaping over smoking..it wasn't that hard. I suggest finding a shop that makes their own juice...or allows you to sample all their liquids. Find stuff that works for you, and just vape until the idea of smoking becomes super :censored: gross...and then, vape some more.

diggyb are you referring to the unit? If so, Joyetech eVic vaporizer. Forgive my newness.

Cool - I was thinking of getting one of those. What are you using for a tank (the place where your juice goes).

There are variables that affect the life of your atomizer. The kind of juice, the voltage, etc... You can use them until they don't work anymore, and if you keep them clean, they'll last longer. I have some that I've been using over a month.

24mg is pretty strong for 6-12 smokes per day. I smoked a pack a day for 20+ years and found 18mg to be more agreeable to me...I've since moved down to 12mg.

Maybe get some 12mg as your all day vape...and have some 18 or 20mg on hand for times of stress or whatever.

You've already made great strides in your quest to quitting, with your decrease in smoking. Congrats!! I was in pretty much the same boat as you before I switched over. I smoked for 25 years and in the last few years of smoking I developed asthma, (which I never had in life before) had pneumonia once, developed a hacking cough and wheezing in the evenings before going to bed. Even the smell of cigarette became irritating to me and I knew I had to make a change.
Welcome to the community. Since your local shop isn't very informative you've come to the right place; you will gain tons of knowledge here about vaping. What type of Atomizer are you using? There are many out there so to answer your question that information is needed. A good juice to start with is something simple but has a taste that you enjoy and will keep you wanting to use it. Everyone has a different pallet so a flavor I like might not be good for you. If your shop has juices set up for tasting before you buy it's best for you to taste and see what you like.
Good luck with your quest. I've been free for 15 months now and haven't even had a cold in that time. You will feel 100% better in a few months or less.

diggyb thank you for providing directions with your questions. I use the Kangertech T3S. I like this tank. I think I am at the wrong mg for my smoking level. When I set my unit at 4.0v it provides a big smoke but I am coughing each vape. I cough more vaping than I do smoking. Someone yesterday just told me my mg is too high and to lower it then increase the vaping level. Does that sound correct?

Nu2m0dng very similar health issues. I would like to survive one winter without lung issues. This is why I joined a community. I need support from former smokers. I was a little worry I would continue the same lung issues if I start vaping since it goes into my lungs anyways. But I need to make a change and fast.
Too be honest I don't know what type of atomizer I have. It came with the kangertech tank I bought. I need to find a vaping location so I can test out some flavors before buying and a mg level.

Do you vape with nicotine in it? Or did you start with no nicotine?

Just as a form of reference, I use 24mg juice and I smoked 2+ PPD of Cam3l 99's. This was the sweet spot for me. If you only had 6 per day and are trying to use 24mg juice you are probably way over what you need. The nic level will determine the feeling you get in the back of your throat (throat hit as you will hear of). If it is too high it will be like smoking for the first time and cause the coughing you are referring to. You are on the right page by asking questions and there will be a plethora of answers coming your way. The important thing is you kick those coffin nails and enjoy the world of vaping as you should be able to. I kicked my habit within the first day. I had 3 left and it took me 3 days to choke them down. They are gone now and also is my craving and "need" for them. You will feel so much better once you kick them completely. You will probably choke up some ugly stuff for a little while but that is normal. Once you get by that it should be pretty smooth sailing from ther. Good luck and we are always here for your questions and keep us updated to your progress. Hopefully the next post will be a positive one!

Not saying you'll have the same experience but I've had horrible colds and infections from my sinuses to my lungs annually for long as I remember. Last year was the last time. After leaving the clinic and dropping a hundred bucks on the appointment, plus another two-hundred on antibiotics and medicine, I was done with smoking. Went from the clinic, to the drug store, to the vape shop. Guess what? A year later and this is the first fall/winter season that I haven't even gotten a cold, let alone some type of respiratory infection. Not only that, but no wheezing or coughing or congestion period. I don't have stinky yellow fingers and my sense of taste and smell are back.
