I have a miracle to report. My two sons had parents that both smoked. They must have been crawling around as babies and picking up all those neurotoxins Whenever I or their father hugged them, they must have been a hair's breath away from having a heart atttack (and at such a young age!)
Well, here's the miracle. They both graduated from high school. Both attended college--despite all that brain damage that they acquired from their two parental "walking toxic dumps." Both are now in their late 30s and must have miraculously recovered from their nerve and brain damage, as both are in the information technology field. One manages large programming projects for a government agency, and the other manages computer systems for a nuclear power plant.
Wait a sec! Come to think of it, both of my son's grandfathers smoked, so how did I and how did my husband get as far in life as we did? How is it possible that our IQs were 25 to 35 points above average? How on earth did so many people at or past the age of retirement survive with their brains intact when half the adult population smoked when they were children? Since more men than women smoked, the odds are good that about 75% of the homes in the US had a smoker living there in the 1940s and 1950s. So that's an even bigger miracle!
ADDENDUM: I just replayed the end of the interview again and this time I caught the reference to non-smoking hotel rooms becoming popular. This 3rd hand smoke garbage is, IMHO, junk science carefully designed as "evidence" to help the
tobacco controllers get away with urging all hotels and motels to make all rooms 100% smoke-free. If the hotels/motels don't like the idea, then the politicians will be urged to pass laws making the hotels/motels get with the program.
