There are some good LED bulbs out there now, though it can take time to filter through what's around. I've got 50W equivalent dimmable and 35W equivalent in GU10 fixtures in our kitchen and great room, 75W equivalent floods lighting the ceiling, 40W equivalent candelabra, and a 75W+ equivalent standard format that'll go in a recessed can fixture at camp. I also have a couple of fairly low power moderate floods at camp, lighting the porch and stairs to the deck. The BR30 floods in the great room were pretty nasty price (about $20 each), the others were all $7 - $10. I've lucked out (research paid off) in that for the interior lights I've only had one "mehh" (too cold a color temperature -- for home interior warm white is where it's at), but that one bulb is fine in a storage area where a cold white works.

(I've been a CFL user for years, but new LED are pretty sweet -- instant on, including in cold weather, better warmth, better light output. For things like the kitchen, where I got used to cruddy failure rates with CFL, I'm expecting good things -- LED bulbs are supposed to be better in handling on/off cycling.)

I've used CFL for years too, even talked Katie into swapping most of her bulbs out to them. Haven't looked into the LEDs

Moon, glad to hear your water pipes made it thru the night...good job! Remember that whistle activated key finder? Coming to a mailbox near you soon

I'm going to have to get one of those Mark. Most of ours are florescent and the floodlight my SIL put in takes so long to warm up and produce enough light to see with that when it quit working I didn't even know it wasn't working.

5° is getting serious Moon. But I guess it could be worse. I remember jumping on the snowmobile when the temp with the windchill was 60 below. After a few minutes I said it isn't even cold on my face anymore and the guy with me says that's because you got frostbite.

I was talking to the doc and he's going to New York tonight until Monday. He said as busy as he always is he doesn't get to know his kids that close because it's always all 4 at the same time. So he has them each pick a place to go (One at a time) and he takes them so he can have a little one on one with them. I think that is really cool.

Glad to hear it all went well 5 !!!

We had a high of 41* and low tonite 21*....Just about sick of that sheet.....DecemBURRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The led I installed has no replaceable bulb.....@ 12 inch circular base with evenly spaced LEDs and a globe cover...It came from Lowes so it ain't that grand....

I got a regular old SNAFU...Pex vs. Quest pipe....The Quest was subject too a lawsuit which I didn't participate in..Quest is what's installed in my beach home...The kid at HD says there is no way too join the two....Says the crimps won't work....He also says the Shark Bites won'd hold for long....This is where I question his expertise as I've had a couple of Shark Bites installed for a few years now....What???/ Seal now but not later??? I had the crimping tool I wanted along with a ring cutter, rings and fittings.....Decided on holding off until I can talk with a person whom I know has experience working with Quest...I'd like too make a few crimps with the tool soon after purchase to verify it works as it should...

Good morning Fran and all my frozen Buzzards

It is a tepid 27° here and as wont as I am to complain (believe me I am, I am) I simply cannot imagine the single digits you are all experiencing. I keep throwing back to Jack London stories, LOL!

I experienced 12° once and that was more (less) than enough for me for a lifetime
Stay warm and have a great Friday!

Woot for you, 5c!!

Amazon, except the candelabra I got direct from Torchstar. (I bought one test Torchstar off Amazon, but the Amazon seller was out of stock when I wanted to pick up five more, to finish the chandelier.)

I did have one early fail on a gu10, Amazon did the refund fast.
