Sorry, Jerry, but she's right. A Southern home-cooked Chicken-Fried Steak was a nuclear secret the South never gave up, Lee's surrender at Appomattox notwithstanding.

We can't reverse-engineer it, however we may try.
That's not what I was hmmmmmmming about, PI. I was hmmmmmmming over Bov's Yankee comment.

Jerry, I love steamers with butter and vinegar. I can get them out here but no clam cakes or fried whole clams.

Do you mind if I ask where in RI you are? I have relatives in Foster. I was born and raised in Putnam, CT.

Edit: I bet most don't know that RI chowder is different than white or red chowder.

Long story short - I joined the Marines when I was barely 18 and ended up marrying a local San Francisco Bay area guy. I stayed out here after our divorce because it was important to me for my daughter to have a relationship with her dad so I stayed. I also love the diversity and the weather of this area. Plus I was always considered the black sheep of the family. :D

I probably have been to Cumberland when I was a kid. At least I recognize the name.

Thank you for your service, Mr. Jerry.

I cheated and googled Cumberland because I knew the name sounded familiar to me. :D

When we had the Loma Prieta quake, I wasn't able to contact any of my family back there so when I went into work the next day I started calling the police stations in Putnam and Foster to see if they would get word to them for me that my daughter and I were okay. My staff thought I was crazier than normal. They kept telling me that they wouldn't do that. I just told them they weren't use to small towns. The Foster dispatcher told me that my aunt and uncle were on vacation but they would let my cousin know. My staff was amazed that both the stations said they would take care of it for me.
