Yet another reminder of my dislike of plumbing :)

Replacing the valve/faucets for the tub/shower. The very first step is adding some flexible faucet hoses, with temporary caps, for the incoming supply lines. One line (hot) mounted pretty cleanly after I cut the incoming 3/8" supply tube, the other (cold), I spent several hours on, cutting it back a little at a time, fine sanding, trying three different compression nuts, silicone to facilitate getting the compression part on -- the darn tubing is just slightly too large to fit, else slightly out of round. Finally I pulled another panel, found where the 3/8" is tied to 1/2". It looks like I can just get into that space with my small tube cutter, switch to 1/2" sharkbite 90, a PEX run, then a sharkbite 90 with 1/2" MIPS on one leg, 30" faucet connection hose coming off it (the 1/2 female compression side of the faucet hose should go okay with the 1/2" MIPS on the sharkbite).

All I want is something that doesn't leak, can be maintained.

Aw Mark, I'm sorry for your plumbing troubles, and can relate more than you know. I've had shower faucet leaking issues for awhile now and just had it fixed (twice in less than a year, same faucet. They sure don't make 'em like they used to!) I also had an issue with my plumbing to the washer. Eventually I plan on replacing all the old stuff with sharkbite, but for now I just had my friend "make it stop leaking and usable." I feel your pain!!

Here are a few photos of my happy place!.....

Notice you aren't seeing any fish? They eat from my hands and are always happy to see me. :( Not today, poor things.

Today again.

Every time I turn around it rains like HADES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The ground is super saturated...flooding has been reported in many nearby areas...so far I've lost a lot of driveway and some dirt has washed from the yard but I'm managing....

never did find the tractor key....bought 2 today....I'll find it now.....

Mark usually the 1/2 inch would feed the shower without going to 3/8...The shark bite is pure heaven compared with those dang bands....I promptly discarded my crimpers after using the first shark bite...More expensive but worth every dang penny in my book...Looks as if the rain I'm seeing is all heading your way...Maybe we'll get some days in the sun soon...Good luck with the plumbing!!!

I didn't read the minnow links but it's obvious they are aggressive...I kept Peacock Bass for years in an aquarium...fed them goldfish that at the time were .10 apiece...Minnows were known to carry diseases that would kill aquarium fish...IDK if feeder goldfish are aggressive or not but that may be an option...Mosquito Dunks may be another option but I don't know if they are safe or not....

Just lit the grill and guess what.....Yeah....it's pouring down rain.....

Tracy, your pond is gorgeous! Hope you can get those little buggers out before they do any more damage.

Off and on rain here today, I haven't even bothered to look at the radar map.

Got a migraine today, used to have them a lot but this is the first in several months. This time preceded by the visual aura which freaked me out a bit. It's happened once before, but it didn't occur to me that it was linked to the migraine. Bizarre visual distortion in my left eye that was like a wavy arc halfway around my outer field of vision. This happened while I was eating lunch, and lasted about 15 minutes. Started looking and found exactly what it looked like and it can be an aura before a migraine, or if you don't get the headache, they call it an ocular migraine. If I kick the bucket later, yall will know that Web MD is a liar lol!

Mark and Dee, just thinking about you working today makes my head hurt more.

Thanks everyone! Loved the taps Bov!

Well, this has left me scratching my head for sure....we drained my little pond completely, into the 4 or so inches of river rock which edges the fence. shop vac'd it until full, then emptied, repeat several times. There was NO WATER left in that pond, my fish safely in another fish safe bucket and there were NO FRIGGIN MINNOWS to be found!!! WTH??? We saw a few of them for sure just yesterday. Not 12 mind you, but at least a few. One of the marginal plants has light colored COPYRIGHTDMCA on top and you could see their little gray/black bodies swim across.

Where the dickens did they go? Bo says maybe the force of the exit of the shop vac pushed them down in between the layers of river rock. I dunno, I guess we'll find out in a couple days when the sun returns and flies find them. (Ew!)

Although I am puzzled, I'm pleased to say that all is well in my little aquatic world. Fish are happily swimming again and not hiding anymore. :)

ElDee, Sorry you lost some driveway. Hopefully the sun shines for you soon! Oh no doubt your key will turn up now, Murphys Law!! Plthhhhhhh!~

Bov, Migraines bite!!!! I get those auras beforehand as well. Next time you get one, go immediately to the medicine cabinet and take 2 Excedrine Migraine and lay down in a quiet room. If you're lucky like me, it'll never develop into the headache. Poor Lauren just got her very first one about a month ago at school. She texted me that she couldn't see right. I knew immediately what was coming. It's the only day she's missed work. They're awful!!

Fran, Happy that no tornadoes touched down by ya!!

Have a good night all!!! (((hugs)))

The plumbing saga continues. Turns out the feed for the bath continued upstream, also the supply to the kitchen. Incoming copper to a tee, then the step down to the tub feed tube and a galvanized pipe towards the run to the kitchen.

Fortunately I had access to the kitchen run, standard 1/2" pex after the first section of galvanized. To heck with it, I'd bypass the galvanized, use a half inch shark tee, life would be cool. Trotted to home depot, got the couple parts, back to camp.

Cut out the galvanized, shark on the pex, then cut the incoming copper, all in a tiny access space that the tub is set in. Turns out the incoming water supply feeding the tub and the kitchen isn't a 1/2", looks like it's actually 3/8 id.

So, now I need to disconnect the pos 3/8, which starts under the bathroom sink, install a new run of 1/2" pex to the tub, then continue as planned. At least it explains why we had cruddy flow to the kitchen, since it had that chunk of 3/8" to go through.

If I've learned anything at all about remodeling, it's that it's usually a lot bigger project than you had planned. I feel for you Mark. When we had the electrician here last year, I walked around the basement with him and he was horrified and all the wiring. When FIL wanted an outlet somewhere, he just used extension cords with the plugs cut off to run off of an old outlet. No wonder we were popping breakers like crazy when we moved in with our computers, big ole tv and whatnot! Very few of the outlets in this house have the 3 prong plug ins

Fran, I had no idea until I read the news, but we had a tornado here in CT today! No injuries and only an F1, but still did damage. Up near Windsor Locks, about 20miles NW of us.

I did this whole house about 20 yrs. ago so I feel your pain. I took out all the plaster and lath and sheetrocked and textured it all. Put on an addition, 200 amp servive and rewired the entire house. Windows. I didn't have to do the siding thank god. I'll never tape and mud another one ever. Oh except I redid the upstairs (same thing about 5 yrs. ago. I don't envy you Mark.

During my younger years I worked with a plumber....All water pipes were copper then...I can sweat a joint with the best of them...Sounds as if whomever repaired the previous leaks was a hack...I use 3/4 to carry the bulk of the water into the use area...1/2 off that if the run to the fixture is short...usually terminate the 1/2 with a cut off valve and 3/8 braided to the fixture....set up like that pressure will be greater at the end of a run due to the step downs in size...less volume but more pressure...3/8 in the middle will definitely cause problems such as you experienced....

Believe it or not...it's been raining all dang night...Contemplating ark construction.....

I had our house built quite a few years back.

I never touched a thing. To me, a tool is something you break something with. And today, its all still working just fine.

Yesterday and the day before were about 89 degrees - oh, and the same today and for the next several days. We had a wonderful breeze out of the north and not a cloud in the sky.

So I've been getting on my tractor and mowing with the bush hog all over the place and just having a good old time.

But have peace in the knowledge that our turn will come for the lousy weather!

Seems we had a tornado touch down for 5 minutes, and traveled 10 miles yesterday in Jersey. :?: It wasn't near me though, thank goodness.

Ugly here today too. Overcast, chance of downpours and flood watches all day. Grand! If ya build that ark ElDee, float up here and get us while you're at it? :p Sick of crappy weather! Then we'll crash TT's where it's nice. What do ya think gang? :) Bella the pom can chill with the armadillo on the couch by the weeds and we'll have us a big old Vape Fest Notcigs style!!!

Yes, plumbing and water (unless it's the shower or the pool) are not very high on my list lately. Plthhhhhhhhhh!~

I hear you on the sheetrock taping and bedding, 5c! My mudding skills are such that it was necessary for me to texture the walls  This was when I lived in my parents house in Tx. The walls were covered with cheap paneling and it was ugly, so I thought I'd just rip out the paneling and patch and paint the sheetrock behind it. Pulled off that first piece of paneling and discovered there was nothing behind it! At least I got to get a good look at all the wiring, and the opportunity to run a couple more phone jacks properly before spending a lot more money than estimated on sheetrock

Tracy, I'm with you and Dee on that ark headed to TT's! I'll bring Chase so he and Bella can play together. Spike will keep them out of trouble ;)
