What an ignorant article. These are not NRT products. Those who claim they are deserve to be slapped with a heavy FTC fine and taken off the market. We e-smokers are indeed "pretty sure" that these are a lot healthier than smoking tobacco cigarettes. I certainly wouldn't be e-smoking if I didn't think so.

I skimmed through it (couldn't bring myself to actually read the blasted thing), and judging by the utter lack of real information and the pushy, childish tone of the article (why does it remind me of peer pressure from other girls when i was 14?), i have only one lingering notion:

It smells like ASHes :p Bleh!

This article and site is a Department of Defense quit site with materials specific for military populations complete with military terminology.

From the site:
About Us
"Quit Tobacco—Make Everyone Proud is an educational campaign for the U.S. military, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense. Launched in February of 2007, the mission of the campaign Web site is to help U.S. service members quit tobacco—for themselves and for the people they love."

You can digg or undigg the article if you scroll down to the bottom of the page.

This is the type of crap we're up against? I can't believe that this is the fodder that makes our representatives jump to conclusions and try to ban what they don't know. It's what causes the mentality of "Get that thing out of here" versus "Wow, what is that?".

Department of Defense? It makes me shudder that they are the source of such an ignorant statement.

All of the citations in the op-ed piece were attributed to CNN, WebMD, and the WHO. Unfortunately, some consider these sources as "viable alternative thinking" to the standard e-cig suppliers and users rhetoric. I'm just saying...

If people are ignorant of a "product" it does not benefit anyone by declaring the ignorant are in fact...ignorant. Inform the ignorant.

it is bs, here is what happened...

Agent 1: Hello, bob. Can I help you with anything today?
bob: yes, I have quit smoking for 10 months
Agent 1: That's great Bob...how can I help you?
bob: tell everyone you speak to , that they should try an electronic cigarette, instead of smoking...I now vape and feel much better
Agent 1: Ok
bob: are you aware of this product?
Agent 1: Yes sir. Are you aware of the harm that is associated with e-cigarettes?
bob: no, can you inform me?
Agent 1: It is important to know that these nicotine delivery devices are not FDA approved for effectiveness or safety
Agent 1: The nicotine is dissolved in propylene glycol
bob: from what I know, the electronic cigarette does not have the 4,000 chemicals that a traditional cigarette has, and there is no combustion.
Agent 1: You are right. However, nicotine is very addictive drug.
bob: propylene glycol is in many food products
bob: and I have lowered my nicotine strength extensively
Agent 1: I understand, but our services are to help individuals to cease tobacco use in general. Is this something you are interested in?
Agent 1: At this link you can see detailed information regarding e-cigarettes if you would like additional information...Electronic Cigarette ? Risky Business? At Quit Tobacco, Make Everyone Proud
bob: yes, I would like to do that, and this electronic cigarette device has helped me like nothing else
bob: What do you suggest?
Agent 1: There are several ways to quit smoking...what are some that you have tried in the past.
bob: I have tried the patch, the gum, chantrix... They were all terrible, the electronic cigarette is perhps the greatest invention of all time
Agent 1: So will you decrease the use to eventually become nicotine free?
bob: can you let the FDA know how positively this has impacted my life?
bob: absolutely, I think it is possible
bob: I can not believe that the FDA is against these, do you thing it is because big tobacco companies have our gov in their pockets?
Agent 1: Take a look on the Quit Tobacco Make Everyone Proud website for various ways to cease tobacco use and the positive aspect of quitting for good
bob: so your views on this specific product are not positive? because when you go to your suggested website, this should be considered an alternative, am I wrong? I know numerous people this has helped
bob: Do you work for any agency in particular?
Agent 1: Our goal is to provide education and information to help individuals cease tobacco use.
Agent 1: I work for the Quit Tobacco Make Everyone Proud campaign
bob: so would you not like to be educated?
bob: are you a former smoker?
Agent 1: Yes sir, I smoked when I was in high school and I have a mother who smoked for over 30 years and she quit cold turkey and has been tobacco free for over 19 years.
Agent 1: Is there anything else I can assist you with Bob? I am glad you have reduced your use and hope that you will be successful in quitting for good.
bob: That is fantastic, I have a father who died from ling cancer, I have had cancer and this product has helped me immensely, and I urge you to research it, if you realize the potential here, you can help millions of people...
Agent 1: Ok
bob: ok, have a good evening
Agent 1: You too and much success to you.
Notice: Agent 1 exited session.

Go for it guys, give em a busy night...

Please keep in mind the personnel of the DoD are not writing these reports. The anti-smoking lobby has simply set their sites higher for government funding. I can picture some E-1 level recruit cutting and pasting while the civil cervants are in meetings figuring new and improved ways to get the message out. It does help to pair your alliances with people that have guns! :)

Interesting.

I would have stressed more that I had in fact quit tobacco :)

That and they haven't been proven *unsafe*. I mean unless someone died from vaping and we hadn't heard about it...

-K
Did not want to do that, waiting for the se, njoy vs. fda case to end...is it a tobacco product? is it an nrt? I just can not say yet...

Please cease and desist from playing games on a DoD website, even if the site is merely hosting this "quit" endeavor. I can assure you these sites are filled with civilian people who may not be as savvy as those on this board. The end result is smiling while one is pulling the wings off a bug, it may be an ugly bug to you, but somebody loves that bug.

Further, I can't think of anything that is more wasteful of your time...

hey, it popped up on my screen, they intruded on me...I just can not help myself and if they choose to spend their time infringing on my privacy I will see what they are up to, what is the downside other than wasting 5 minutes?
