Electric Cigarette Explodes in a Man's Face

dmako FYI Notcigs made the first fully protected ecig with the original Buzz , we have always put safety FIRST , all Notcigs products have over current , reverse voltage etc, protection in them and always have .

Using Li-ion batts has to be taken seriously they have the potential to do what happened to this guy , that is WHY we build in the protection into our devices , we have NEVER had a battery outgas or explode in our devices. FYI

Big tobacco has been chomping at the bit for something to "go wrong" with e-nics and I do hate it for the person and family involved.Call me conspiracy theorist or whatever but,I wouldn't put it past the big tobacco companies to "cause" this horrific event. The advent of the technology that most of us use daily saves multiple lives in a household instead of slowly killing them.I for one feel like a completely different person and although it was a gradual change it has been dramatic and still continues to improve my health.I suffer from MS(multiple sclerosis) and smoking instigated me having an attack at various times.

I think I have heard that story on four different radio stations just this week(well since last night really) and the key things like what actually caused the "device/batteries" to explode was not mentioned on any of them. The only things that were said were that "electronic cigarette users might want to think again before reaching for their device instead of the real thing" and that really sickens me.This man was burned and lost some home furnishings but,he was no longer slowly killing himself and everyone around him.Truth be told it probably had a lot to do with "user error" or doing something he knew he shouldn't in the first place.

Well to be completely honest, some of these reports do have a point. There are some mods out there that don't take safety into account. It is up to companies to be responsible for their product. However, this is completely not the case with notcig because these guys take safety into account first.

I do however see some really crazy mods out there. Some of them I would never purchase or use.

This doesn't even begin to mention the percentage of every day people who will always use the product incorrectly or don't understand what exactly it is they are doing. Hell, have you ever read all the warnings that come with a weed eater or a lawn mower these days? I got a ladder the other day for the house, and the damn instruction manual was a book of which 3/4 of it was warnings about how now to kill yourself with the damn ladder. There are always going to be people who operate stuff incorrectly or attempt to modify things in a dangerous way. No amount of warnings will ever help that percentage of people who operate things incorrectly or take heed to warnings about the products they are using.

Very well put !!! and we have always been concerned about safety , we knew from the start that Li-ion batts pack a huge punch and had to be protected.

http://news.yahoo.com/device-exploded-man-mouth-not-electronic-cigarette-203227292.html

the thing had 3x stacked cr123's in it?!?

The media reports that have been coming out about the man that had an electronic cigarette blow up in his mouth have all been inaccurate and misleading, claims Puffweb.com. Puffweb feels this is a text book example of poor journalism.

Tampa, FL (PRWEB) February 28, 2012
Many have heard the story reported by ABC News about the tragedy in Florida concerning the electronic cigarette that exploded. According to Puffweb.com, the device that exploded in Tom Holloway’s mouth was actually in fact NOT an electronic cigarette, it was an electric cigar. Most of the media reports coming out refer to this device as an electronic cigarette. According to Fire Chief Butch Parker that was on the scene (from an MSNBC news report), the device was large and cigar shaped. According to Dan Henry, head editor of the popular electronic cigarette review website Puffweb.com, "This indicates that the device is clearly an Electric Cigar, which is much different than an electronic cigarette. The news media is not clarifying the difference between the two."
Furthermore, Chief Butch Parker reported finding several 3.0 volt CR123A type batteries charging in the room along with a scorched battery case that appeared to be one for a cigar-sized device. This information suggests the device he was using may have been a "Mod”, a device that has been intentionally modified by a third party company and outside the specs of industry standard safety and quality control. V2 Cigs also released a statement on their blog concerning this incident and the dangers of using Mods.
"First of all, the major electronic cigarette companies like V2 and Green Smoke, do not make electronic cigars. Most electronic cigars are made by foreign companies or diverse manufacturers that are not recognized in the electronic cigarette industry," says Dan Henry.
Dan Henry also said, “I don’t include Electric Cigar Reviews or Mods Reviews on my website because I don’t recognize them as being in the same industry as Electronic Cigarettes. They are dangerous and I do not recommend they be sold or used.”
U.S. based Electronic Cigarette companies have been producing E-cigs for years with no incidents or injuries. "Based on what the Fire Chief had to say, the device that exploded was most likely a Mod, and not made by a reputable company. Mod’s are add-ons to existing devices and can result in fire or explosions, and are notorious for doing so. Some of these devices are even made by individuals, not companies, which do not have the means to test for safety like major manufactures," according to Dan.
“So what have we learned here?” says Dan Henry. “Not only was the device not an electronic cigarette, but we are now receiving information that it was a triple stack battery Mod! This should raise awareness on the dangers of modifying electronics that you put in your mouth! Electronic Cigarettes have a flawless record of safety and it’s important to recognize that this incident is not a representation of the safety of electronic cigarettes. It should also be a wakeup call to those that like to tinker with such devices that can cause injury.”
You can visit Puffweb.com for more Electronic Cigarette information, and also read about the Ruling on FDA Regulating Electronic Cigarettes.
