I am making an attempt at my first SS mesh wick on my vivi nova. only the first coil is heating up. My ohm reading is all over the place....from 2.1 to 1.6. The first coil that is lighting up is lighting up before the first turn in the coil....the part of the kanthal that goes down to the (positive or negative...not sure which).....

HELP! lol

Yes that is a hot spot. If your ohm reading is all over the place the coils are probably shorting via the wick.

Move the glowing coil around to get it to fire with the rest. Make sure the lead isnt loose. Keep getting juice to the wick and burn ... the wick will build some carbon and your ohms should settle.

If not, you'll have to wrap it better.

well done.
with a bit more work, it can glow even more evenly.
the rolling paper trick works well, youtube it if you havent already.
another trick is wrapping the coil around something sturdy, like a toothpick. remove the toothpick then slide your wick into that, then mount.
i cant tell if youve done this, but rolling the wick with he weave going diagonally helps with kinking and imporves wicking.

looking great so far!! congrats!

If yer resistance starts to jump again "out of the blue" it might be due to "over oxidizing" the wick.......the term "a well oxidized wick" can be confused with ".....oxidized it more!!!"

When oxidizing a wick what you want juuuust enough. Looks like you have a great start tho....:toast:
