This is confusing

Hello,

I've been vaping on and off for some time. Everytime I get to vaping, I usually get one of the 501 starter kits, that look like a cigarette, with the small cartomizers that come with it. Needless to say, the experience sucked, and I've eventually give up on it. Now, I've been planning to get back to vaping more seriously, and decided to go with a full out mod. The problem is that this stuff is even more confusing now than it used to be. A co-worker has the VV gripper and I really liked the form factor. I know that I need a battery to go along with it, and I've got plenty from my LED flashlights. What else goes into it? I assume I'll need a tank, but does the tank come with the atomizer? Do I need some drip tip to go along with it?

The terminology can get confusing fast enough, I wonder why no vendors say get this, that and this other thing to make a complete kit... This is probably an idiot question, but the FAQs did not have anything on it.

You can't use your flashlight batteries so far as I know. Try an itaste vv3--they come as a kit for around $45. Provaris also come as a kit but very pricey. If you look at the top of the forum menu, there is a bunch of vendors (under forum suppliers) who are approved by site admins (which means they aren't rip off artists). Check their sites and you will see there are a lot of starter kits for various kinds of vaping equipment.

I agree with cbrite - the iTaste vv3 is a great little vv/vw mod

in regards to batteries - flashlights do not pull as much power as ecigs do so most common flashlight batteries are not suitable for use in mods - especially stay away from any battery brand that has "fire" in the name

you would need the 18650 size in an unprotected IMR or an AW battery (also efest, orbtronic, sony, or Panasonic)

did your coworker let you try their gripper? I don't like the location of the fire button myself as it is uncomfortable for my hand size.
also keep in mind it has no ego threading for some different smaller tanks and clearos although you can get an adaptor for this

Thanks guys. I should have clarified this earlier, by compatible flashlight, I meant a 18650 driven Cree XM-L LED flashlight - the ones that put out a ridiculous amount of light. If the gripper takes in 18650, I should have plenty of spares. I like having one type of battery to charge and carry, it makes it mush more easier if I am traveling. Plus I guess if I have a dead battery on the e-cig, it's much more easier to repair.

I did not try the gripper, but he seemed to like it a lot. What I liked about it is that it is compact, and rests naturally when placed on a table, and it's super easy to hold on to it.

Thanks for the recommendation for the iTaste vv3, but I see that it is a 800 mAh battery. The 18650s I have are 1600 true mAh, and given the choice, I'd rather have twice the vaping power :)

I'm a newbie but I think the "Kayfun lite plus" clone from EHpro combined with the MVP2 (V/V V/W) is a setup that is going to be hard to beat. For about $100 you end up with a highly respected rebuildable tank with great flavor plenty of vape (for me),and is easy to rebuild, along with a box style mod that last longer on a charge than other options. No doubt there are better options for some people, but for me this setup just makes sense and works very well.
Cheers,
Jim

I ended up with the MVP 2.0. For the price, it was worth a try, and I've really come to appreciate the battery life - I am on my 6th day and the battery level is hovering at 3.7V. The build quality is brilliant, and I can't truly find a fault with it. The iclear30 it came with is also amazing - this thing beats the older KR808Ds (anyone remember those?) from my last foray into ecigarettes. Thanks for the recommendations. I have a Kayfun clone on order from fasttech, and since I have close to 20ml from my last attempt at vaping, I think I should be good to go for another couple of weeks.

MVP is a great choice. I've had mine for over a year.
