So, I got my mom started on ecigs around this time last year, for her birthday. She still smokes a few cigarettes a day but it's much better than before.

During her time smoking she usually smoked Virginia Slims and signed up with them to receive special offers in the mail; usually this included simple coupons, one time she got a girl pink mirror thing... but nothing that really glorified smoking at all.

Until today.

Her birthday is coming up soon. My fiance got the mail for us today and, seeing a huge red envelope with pretty white and pink font from Virginia Slims addressed to my mother I decided to commit a felony and open the thing intending to rip up the coupons inside. But it wasn't just coupons this time. It was a birthday card.

I mean, I'm okay with the coupons. It's your choice to sign up and save money, that's cool. But this? I find it ridiculous & disgusting.... a fashionable, pretty woman holding chocolate on the front. Comparing it to chocolate on the inside. All the while having surgeon general warnings all over the place (theres more on the back), and ending it saying "from your friends". I mean... maybe if they even put a piece of chocolate inside... but no...just a surgeons general warning plastered on a fake-gift card type cut out.

Maybe I'm over reacting but this is the most I've saw cigarettes glorified in a while myself.

Amazing... it is absolutely revolting that there is such a double standard. Buggers are making money hand over fist by getting people to purchase cigs (and line their pockets) while trying to paint this industry as being dangerous.

IMO just another example how money rules our country - not common sense or we the people.

Huh. I really don't understand the chocolate analogy. But if you are feeling guilty about opening your Mum's mail I would get right on line and order her something in a chocolate flavored e-liquid for her birthday. You can keep the joke to yourself, toss the guilt, and help her to stay quit all in one order!

Being her Birthday & all it coulda been atleast a coupon for a free pack... Cheap .......s lol......................

Yeah, I still get sent my share of coupons from when I smoked. They've become worse and worse over the years. I remember them being at least some sort of BOGO offer at first. Now you're lucky to get one for $4.00 off a carton. But now those coupons just go straight to the trash in my place.

haha, no guilt :p she knew I take those out of her mail a long time ago. the commuting a felony thing was a joke ;) I open them to make sure there's nothing useful inside. the mirror thing for instant I made into a bird toy.

I ordered some backwoods brews malty toffee that should be here soon. I planned on sharing that with her, close enough to chocolate !

I did show her the card, she felt the same way I do.

I used to get stuff from Marlboro for my birthdays all the time back in the day. They sent me a nice little one-person glass ashtray and a credit card sized metal bottle opener. I keep it in my wallet and have been the hero of many a party because of it. None of it is branded, though, which is good. They just have plateaus and red horseshoes and Marlboro-like imagery.

Now they just send me cardboard coasters. It's pretty disappointing!

I still get stuff from marlboro as well, a couple years ago I actually won a trip to the marlboro ranch, that was great, even met a couple ppl that had stopped smoking who won the trip there as wel, all expenses paid, free stuff non branded
of course. Was an experience I'm glad I was able to partake in.

Analog free for over 2months now.

I get the same thing from Marlboro on just about every holiday. I give them away to smokers that I have failed at trying to convert but that's their choices to make. I have even contacted Marlboro and tried to get them to stop sending the coupons to me...nope they won't listen. Oh well, it's their stamp.

We should come up with Ecig general statement cards to send out for holidays.

"Vaping will extend your life by eliminating smoking cigarettes. So, this holiday season, keep your extra savings from not smoking to buy pens and paper. With all the time you'll save not smoking cigarettes, you'll have more time to think up excuses not to buy others gifts this year to get that mod you'll eventually want."
