cinnamint or similar cinnamon/menthol flavors are some of my favorites, but they are definitely "hard hitters", especially with a freshly filled cart/carto; even more with a fresh fill & fresh battery.

Also draw technique plays in a lot. If you draw directly into your lungs the hit is MUCH harsher than if you take a slow "mouth filling" draw then inhale the vapor. Maybe you are doing both interchangably?

How long have you been using that atty? Do/have you cleaned it?........I had an episode of "suddenly nasty" yesterday that turned out to be gunked up atty. Any juice I had just suddenly tasted gross. I keep a plastic film cannister half full of PGA/Vodka for cleaning......drop in the dirty atty, shake, blow out, repeat.....add 5-6 drops of juice to the atty and vape away. A 3 minute cleaning and flavor was back to normal.

Good idea! But I don't have the PGA/Vodka. Would rubbing alcohol work? That's all I have here. I just got this kit with the two-of-damn-near-everything in it a few weeks ago.

Also, when I switched the atty out the new "clean" one barely worked even with putting about 5 drops of juice on it.

I feel like such an idiot...thanks for all the help!!

As for the new one, they do sometimes have to "break in", and will start performing properly with some use. I would stay away from rubbing alcohol unless you can let the atty sit and dry COMPLETELY before use. Any alcohol 80proof or above will get the job done, I used Tequila the first few times I cleaned. Vodka and PGA are just "cleaner/purer" and therefore preferred. Can also clean by just alternately running under HOT water and blowing out a few times, but again a little drying time is recommended afterward. I've found that alcohol does a better job for me and is almost immediately usable after blowing out for the last time.

Okay, I'm getting totally frustrated now. I started with a different cart, took out the filler, put about 10 drops in, replaced fill and added 3 drops and the taste is so harsh that it's burning my throat.
Although you've gotten various suggestions, that sure sounds like classic dry atomizer.

So let me assume that you decided it was time to refill the cartridge because of one of the following reasons...
--You noticed the taste was starting to drop off...
--You noticed it starting to get kind of harsh tasting...

So either of the above might mean that you were one or two drags away from the harsh dry atomizer drag.
Refilling the cartridge does not instantly fix that problem.

Whenever your atomizer is dry, it is a good idea to put a couple of drops directly on the atomizer to get started again.

Because if you are relying solely on the cartridge to get the atomizer wet again, you may need to wait a couple of minutes.
It takes time to wick juice from the cartridge down to the atomizer.

you cant really damage anything by overfillig with a 510/riva the batteries are sealed and hell you can submerge the atty..and the cartridge is just plastic. youll know when there too much juices because itll be leaking thats about it honestly just add 3 or 4 drops right on your atty and drop more drops when the flavor starts lacking i dont even mess with filling up cartirdges its just not a flavorful....maybe if ur on a roadtrip but id just keep on filled for that reason..they need to have a broken glass look with the filler thats how you know they are filled good 10-12 drops for mine

This is an excerpt from the thread linked in my signature below, which I thought might be helpful...

Dry atomizers, flooded atomizers, and wicking
Basically, you want to keep your atomizer happy with plenty of juice, but not too much as to flood it.

A good sign that it's flooded is that it gets a little harder to draw on and you get little or no vapor.
Flooding it, however, won't hurt it at all, and you can just blow out the extra juice.

Letting it get too dry, on the other hand, is not good for the atomizer supposedly.
But regardless of whether it is bad for the atomizer or not, you still don't want to do it.

You can tell it is too dry when it starts to taste like crap.
A nasty sort of burnt plastic type of taste.

One reason it might get too dry is if you burn through the juice faster than it can wick up more.
That is why people experiment with different kinds of filler materials to use in their cartridges.

If you take only a drag or two every now and then, you should be fine.
But if you use these like a cigarette, the wicking process will have trouble keeping up.
There are ways to deal with this, and people have different methods that work better for them.

And of course, when the cartridge is running low on juice, it needs topping off for this reason.
