It is a real shame that the UK is leading the way with pro-vaping research, to the point where the UK public health agency sees the potential in vaping and actually want the NHS to provide e-cigs to smokers to help them quit. PHE actually estimates that if vaping products was provided to all smokers in the UK, of the 80,000 deaths attributed to smoking in the UK each year, they estimate that 76,000 of them can be avoided.

Before you get to carried away:

This is not a sudden reversal of belief on the part of government. This is the realization that there is a Lot of Money(Taxes) to be made from E-cigs.

Seems the Idea is to place them under Health Control and Provide, at a Controlled application and cost, to the Smoking Public.

Sort of wreaks of BP and BT if you read everything carefully.

I did not find it. For me it looks like just as it looks like after not very careful reading. Of course later interpretation could be of any kind.

I can see where you would start leaning toward the financial impact part, but you have to remember the UK has socialized medicine, making it part of the NHS would not provide any more Tax income to the government at all. There would likely be no, or an insignificant COST to the consumer. You could have to wait in lines for hours to get your e-cig though!

On the UK side no taxes - only controlled sales, which may or may not provide income to government. However it could easily be STRICTLY By Prescription and Very Controlled Devices/Nicotine levels/Flavors(or lack there of)

Not saying it is...

Now, get them to Publicly announce they will not only be offering Medical support but will NOT be regulation personal use for Adults and I'll not be so concerned.

There was an article in the Mirror that talked about this position and they mentioned that PHE wants the government to consider e-cigs as a medical device so that the NHS can prescribe them to smokers. Their hope is that by the end of this year that will be done and their estimate is that if e-cigs are available through NHS, half of smokers can get them at no cost. Of course the skeptic in me is thinking that if they are considered medical devices, then perhaps that is an end run to get strict regulations in place (such as BT's desire to have closed systems that cannot be refilled, etc.).
