I swear it, this is no exaggeration. And it didn't hit me until now that I made it through without even THINKING about a cigarette. Test passed, with flying colors.

I don't want to get too into details, but one of my kids has spent the last two days in a pediatric ICU. She's stable now, so thankfully it looks like all will be well.

I did vape like a ...., though. The hospital was fully non-smoking, but allowed ecigs outside. So I got to sit on the bench outside vaping while I watched the smokers walk a block down the street so they could smoke on the sidewalk. That was kind of nice. On a week like this, I'll take my pluses where I can.

Prayers going out for your little one there Mommyofdoom. Glad to hear that she is doing better now and hope that only improves by leaps and bounds for you. Also glad to hear that you're looking at the small favors and haven't let the stress get you into smoking analogs again. Now you'll be able to look at this week if you're ever tempted and tell yourself that smoking is not the way to go and staying away from it will keep you around longer for your little girl. Hopefully this next week will prove to be so much better for you.

I'm happy your child is ok, MOD (can I abbreviate your name?). Congrats on your not-smoking, but way more importantly, relieved everyone's stable.

MOD is fine, I've used this in other forums and usually they just called me MOD or Doom. :)

And thank you (to all) for the well-wishes.

It can only get better from here.

Supportive statement: Not only did you make it through a very hard week, you did so without 'falling off the wagon' so to speak. Stress affects us all in very different ways, but it pretty universally causes us to fall back to old comfortable habits. It didn't for you, in this case.

I am glad to hear your kid is stable. I've bled to defend children and would go to great lengths to defend and protect them....far more than most adults. You've done very well. May your child have a speedy recovery, and make sure you take some time to give yourself a small pat on the back for your own achievement.

because i know that my high stress points can drive me back to smoking...(it has many times)....i intentionally chose to start ecigs and give up the stinkies during a very stressful event. i figured if i could do it during the very high stress times, i can do it at any time and be successful. you have found my theory to be true. very happy for both you and your child. keep up the good work.

Request: Keep us updated on the status of your child. There are and have been a few posts where members have shared things like this with us...and unlike many forums, this one is actually supportive and cares.

There is another thread right now asking for prayers for a 19 year old son who has left and is currently missing. This community is very supportive, and you won't be seeing any trolling or other degrading comments like you might in other areas. Even from me, and I'm a brutal cold-blooded assassination droid.

Sorry to hear about your child's trip to the ICU, I've only ever dated a woman with a child once, but things like this were heart wrenching for me, so I can only imagine how it must have been for you. I'm glad to hear she is stable now and wish her a speedy recovery.

I'm so glad to gear that you were able to get through this and not go back to smoking, it would not have been the crime of the century, but its sill great that you didn't.

In fact I'm so happy for you I'm going to sing the "Doom" song now.

"Doom de doom, doom de doom, doom!"

Thanks. She's physically fine now, but due to other issues she's been transferred to another facility. She might be home Sunday if her treatments go well, but I imagine she will require therapy for a good while. I'm just happy she's still here. We very easily could have lost her, she's a very lucky girl.

My heart breaks for the other family. I'll send some prayers for them. I couldn't imagine the pain they must be feeling.

Reassurance: I've already directed additional power to the other affected partied I mentioned....but my thermal core has enough that I can spare some for your daughter's swift healing while still maintaining (hopefully) 99.9383% capacity to obliterate offending meatbags.

Much appreciated :)

my heart goes out to you. glad vaping kept you off the analogs during such a tough time. I have had quite a few moments lately where I was just like screw it I want a cigarette, then i had a vape chilled out and realized how nice it was to not smell like an ashtray and not have to go outside like a maniac every 30 mins. I am great as long as my equipment is working, and even when its not or I can't vape I just think about how long its been and the reasons why I am better off without it even when the going is tougher than I think I can possibly bear. keep up your positive self talk and focus on the positive. it's sounds like you are already doing that so keep it up and don't forget to take some time for yourself.
