Yeserday I was working downtown. I'm a cabinetmaker and I was doing an installation in a Dowwntown hospital. Let me preface this by saying that in the last couple of years the hospitals in the area have all adopted very strict anti-smoking policies, including restricting people from smoking on the property. Fine by me, I don't smoke.

I circled the block a couple of times looking for a parking spot and finally found one 2 blocks away. I get out of my truck, ego in one hand, toolbag in the other and make the trek a couple blocks away. The houses on the street I'm walking on are actually private owned museums who have apparently, unbeknownst to me at the time, followed suit in the policies set by the neighboring hospital.

A freaking parking attendant jumps out of his booth, on the sidewalk, OUTSIDE, and yells' "hey, you can't smoke here you gotta go across the steet.":rules: I show him the device in my hand and explain it's not a cigarette, to which he replies, "It's SMOKIN', ain't it!" "IT'S NOT SMOKE, IT'S NOT tobacco!" I yelled back. :mad:

Well i walked on and kept on vapin. But yeah, outside on the sidewalk of all places! I'll be glad when the rest of the planet loses the misconception that the two [vaping and smoking] are one and the same. Just wanted to share with like mided individuals. Vape on!:smokie:

I know what you mean. The other day I was standing in the front yard of a person's house. This person smokes and let's all the smokers come over for the shade trees, no problem to him. OK I have to wear a uniform and uphold the law and policies of the place I work at. It's a state owned place. (Sorry Can't give exact names for certain reasons), any way I'm standing on his front yard by a row of hedges. It happens to be across from a grade school. A Female,(notice I did not say lady) Pulls her car off the road and screams "You should know better than to smoke if front of children". I look around and all the kids are inside a fenced area. I told her there were no kids around to which she responded that she was going to call the Police. I told her dial 911 it works pretty good, and went back to vaping.

Could have been worse i guess. I probly would have reacted the same way if he were a cop. His uniform did look alot like a police uniform, lol. Okay, not funny. But the best part was, there were no signs on that side of the street. As soon as i rouned the corner i saw the signs, and about 10 people smoking cigarettes right next to them, both to and from the hospital. I think this was just a case of a bored parking attendant with police envy!

Burn!!! No pun intended... Well, it is what it is. It's not your property and those are their rules. Respect and move on. Glad you didn't throw a tool at him.

Actually sidewalks are owned by the city and they can't enforce the rules on them. They bully you into thinking they can but the cop that was called on me a few years back told them that the city has no such laws that prohibit smoking on any city property just inside the buildings...

Of course I'm a right wing nut job.....I believe in personal responsibility, NOT government responsibility...:)

Hey, I'm no hero, nor want to give vaping a bad rep, but I would have totally ignored the SOB (Sheriff Of Booth)!

As to the 'Female' incident, I would have told her that it's an inhaler for your health. Perfect time to reinforce the PV argument.

<zooming in on said location>

"But lady (OK, OK, female), it's my PV!"
"Don't care, you're inconsiderate and will harm the children!"

<zooming in even closer>

<dropping to the ground while madly pulling on your PV>
"Call 911, I need a vape!"

To Hades with da azzhats!

Don't want to slam the profession but those guys don't get payed much for a sometime tough job. Probably didn't know wtf a vape was.
Some but not all are not very motivated and also they take a lot of crap.

Actually in California, the City of Burbank has prohibited smoking (cigarettes) on their streets. I think it's a private city though not a municipality. I know other cities are following suit. I have vaped in Burbank no problem.

At the Cancer Center in Philly I would go outside and vape (winter). They wanted smokers to go across the street (in the sleet and rain). I just went out on the patio and this security guard comes out to me and says theres no smokin' here. I get it; it's a cancer treatment center and unbeknownst to me there's a million cameras on the campus (bad part of town). Anywho I say's it's a vaporizer to which he replies "oh, that's o.k., carry on. It'll get better when stupid people read a book or as vapin' gets more air play.
