Thought it was time I got involved

Hello there! I've lurked these forums every now and then for the last six months or so, and now that I've pretty much gotten over my craving of cigarettes and am a full-time vaper, thought it'd be worth signing up and getting involved with the community a little more.

So, for those who care, my name is Luke and I am 24, from the UK. Since April, I've gone from cig-a-likes, to an eGo, to an MVP, and have recently (this morning) bought my first RBA: the Rocket. The guy in my local vape store helped me get started with it, and showed me how to build coils (whilst also giving me a free metre of coil and a free metre of wick, very nice of him). It's a little daunting, but the coil he built for me to replace the god-awful pre-installed on is performing great. It's reading at 2.8 ohms on my MVP (I think he prefers higher resistance vapes), and I've vaping it at 4.6v. The vapour production isn't quite enough for me if I were to be picky (compared to the EBC clearo I used for a month which blows out solid walls of vapour at 4.2v), but the flavour is infinitely better. My juices have had new life breathed into them.

I'm sure over time I will begin to build coils that suit my own style, and that's a big reason I figured now would be a great time to get more involved with the community. I want to continue to learn, practise and perfect, and continue to vape happily ever after.

I welcome any tips relating to getting more vapour out of my Rocket if you know of any, but apart from that, just wanted to say hi, and I'm sure I'll speak to many of you on these forums as time goes on!

I have a question. Do you have the MVP2 with the built in ohm reader so you will know the resistance of the coils you build?
or a multimeter?
Just asking. I personally think you will like a 1.5 to 1.8 ohm coil to give you a better variety of power with out over taxing the battery in the mvp.

and welcome to the ECF

Hello, welcome! The people here are pretty friendly and knowledgeable. Im sure you will have a good time and learn a bunch. As to the more vape production, going sub ohm's is an option if you have a mechanical mod to throw your RBA on, but like I said, there is plenty of resources here and im sure the great community will help getting you your perfect vape. Welcome :toast:

Welcome to ECF and good luck on building ur own coils! Everyone says its not hard but I'm sure there's some kind of learning curve. I'm approaching that step myself but still a little timid to jump in the water just yet.

I was the same way, just gotta jump in the deep end and go for it. There are a bunch of youtube videos if you are more of a visual learner, but once you do it once the concept is pretty simple and its all about just practicing. If you have a vv/vw mod most even have a resistance checker built in to see what ohm's your building your coils to. If you like to tinker then you should have no problems at all. Good luck :)

More welcomes, thank you guys! It's awesome how just a few hellos can make you feel when you're new to something! ;)

Hello! Yea I'm going by the ohm reader on the MVP. It went a little crazy earlier and gave me a reading of anything from 2.8 to 4.5 ohms — I got a different result each time I read it! I cleaned the contacts on both the atomiser and the battery with some tissue and it seems to be okay now, reads a solid 2.8 ohms each time I check.

My next task is to build a coil with a couple less wraps to try and get to under 2.0 ohms and see how I like it. Will try in a few days after watching a few more videos I think!

Thanks for the welcome, too!

Lori, this place is great. Tons of information and education.

It took me months of reading before I finally signed up. But, the forums are full of good reviews, tutorials, and safety information (just in case you decide to get a mechanical or start building your own coils).

Luke, welcome! Wrapping coils can be intimidating at first, but once you have it figured out, and know how you like your atty set up, you'll wonder how you managed to get by with prebuilt setups at all.

Thank you for more welcomes.

Lori - that's exactly how I feel. When I first started looking into proper vaping (when I started getting annoyed with my first cig-a-like device) I was absolutely overwhelmed by all these devices people were using. They looked like lightsabers to me back then. Thankfully, after enough rooting around the web and watching YT videos from the big players, all the lingo means much more to me now and I understand most things people talk about and what I see.

Neon - hello! You're right, coils seem like a big step forward that I may not be ready for just yet, but hey, I've got my RBA so I may as well get started some time. The guy in the vape store I got it from told me that doing your own coils is much like learning to roll the perfect cigarette — your first few will suck, but eventually you'll find what works for you and you'll never go back. It's a journey I'm excited to embark on, that's for sure!
