were /are you a smoker? vaping is not like smoking, it has a completely different feel than smoke..
there are several reasons for the difference and "harshness"
PG can be harder on the throat than VG
Hi nic content can be a cause
poor wicking can result in a dry hit which can be very harsh
and of course... a combination of the above in small amounts of each can build up together to make it harsh
for example 90+%PG with a medium level nic and a slightly dry wick can be very harsh

Im new to vaping and unfortunately all i have experienced is coughing, spluttering and discomfort...i picked up the subvod nano by kangartech..... is this normal for beginners

It was normal for me. Actually the subvod would have been unbearable when I started vaping.
It's not considered normal though to say this on a forum, as bigger is better, more clouds are the only way and you need a 100w mod to even start vaping these days.
(Sarcasm)
Drop your Nicotine, raise your VG.
Can you mouth to lung on this? If not... it could be a difficult few days. Don't worry overly though, you should make it...

This is what Vapeclub UK says about this product.

Important information about Sub Ohm vaping:

These devices are also designed for sub-ohm vaping, and they require more vaping experience to use safely, and extra care should be taken when using a sub ohm tank. Sub ohm coils will only work on a mod capable of firing sub ohm atomisers. Please ensure that your batteries can handle the extra power requirements, and that your mod can handle the amps.

We also advise not to use any e-liquid with more than 6mg of nicotine, as your vapour may taste harsh. Sub ohm vaping produces a bigger throat hit than standard coils, and extra care should be taken. [/quote]

First of all everyone gets a sore throat when they first start an secondly putting higher nicotine than 10me in a model like that can damage the thread.
I have a hundred watt sub ohms an can't use 10mg on it. This is the equivalent of having 24mg in a poorer quality e cig.
Don't put such a high amount of nicotine in an when using variable voltage there should be a leaflet with resistance an wattage outputs so you don't damage the atomizer. Sounds like you've blown the atomizer so replace that an put in a lower nicotine content.

To a degree it is normal. Vaping is categorically different than smoking a cigarette. It is even rather different than puffing on a pipe.

@RoseJ suggested checking out a link on inhale technique. I second her pointer to that. Vaping takes a user learning how to do it.

As a beginner, I would also possibly suggest a different starting kit. Any eGo type battery, especially an eGo Twist type at say 1100mAh and a reasonable Evod style tank would get you started. It may in fact be, the type of kit, all you ever need.

Here are a few:

MadVapes Majestic ARO Kit | Madvapes

http://is.gd/5PUQzc

These are out of stock currently. They can though provide you with examples. I use both the ARO and T-Dux 3.0 tanks. Both do very well. They offer good flavor and from time to time you get some plumes of vapor.

These are also Pyrex glass tanks. That means you could use any flavor you want without much concern. The epoxy compound used to insert the glass does wear away after 6 months to a year. And that's no real hassle.

These tanks remain priced under $10. I pick up a five pack of them here and there once in a while. Presently, I know where I may find ARO & ARO II tanks for $1 a tank. :)

Coil heads for the tanks are not expensive either. Normally under $10 for a five pack. They're single coil heads and can be rebuilt if you really desire. I get a head to last about a month before it needs serious cleaning. Rinse between refills.

After a dunk in vodka and rinsed clean after a month, I can go another month. Then, I may rebuild or just look to order new heads. A five pack of heads then could be said to get me through about 10 months, maybe a year if I rebuild a bit.

The T-Dux heads can be rebuilt as well. From what I understand of the process though, just as far ahead to order new. They run just a bit over $10 for five pack but they are dual coils, so cost more. Do not think I've seen any vendor go too far over $15 for a five pack.

You should of started with a standard one variable voltage, not a sub where you'll likely break the thread or burn out the atomizer. You need to know the resistance an which coil is right for you.
Until you've got the know how I would suggest that you buy a standard vv 20 watt an have a play with that.
Sub ohming is for the pro.

Don't go to higher wattage till you have the know how, I got a curve when I started an broke it within two weeks of getting it.

That's not necessarily correct, Skold. It all depends on your coil build and resistance. Too low a wattage with a sub-ohm coil will produce a harsh and wet vape that will most certainly make anyone cough. The wattage needs to be matched correctly to the atty and coil in use.
