I've only used the flavor Minthol from madvapes for the 2 1/2 months I have been analog free. I smoked Salem before quitting so I needed the same hit I had with those and the 16mg does the trick. I do get that little tickle but that is usually from not drinking enough water. What I am vaping now tastes just like a Salem minus all the nasty stuff. :)

Forgive my "noobieness" but I came across a thread somewhere tonight talking about how the so-called "protected" batteries can also have a tighter draw, which in turn could mean less of a throat hit (or at least making you exert more effort into getting one.) I recently had to replace my batteries (KR808d) and noticed this but didn't put "2 and 2" together until I came across the posting.

So other than drilling a hole in the battery or something:confused: should I go for perhaps a lower resistance carto? There's no point in me naming a vendor because it seems like most of them are selling the new "regulated" battery design. With the particular vendor I got the new batteries and cartomizers from they didn't mention the cart resistance other than it was regular or normal or high or whatever and not LR.

Thanks,

Norman

Hi Norman.

We were all new at one point, so no worries.

That being said, "protected battery" refers to the way a battery is manufactured. It is able to sense dangerous conditions and shut down so as to prevent a violent explosion. So "protected battery" is a term that is not to be confused with regulated/unregulated or tightness of the draw or anything else whatsoever.

Battery safety can be an extensive topic. I will leave that for someone else as I have to run now. Please search and read up on the topic though, especially if you plan on buying a "mod" where you can remove and recharge the batteries. With mods you can only use protected or IMR batteries. It would be excessively foolish, dangerous and negligent to do otherwise. Safety first!

All the best!

Oops thrice. I'm sorry. I was burnt last night. I meant "sealed." The batteries that no longer have the hole in the top center and (at least on mine) only have 2 small holes drilled in the threading area as opposed to 3 small holes. I don't know if this is common for a bunch of folks or not, but I definitely noticed a "tighter" draw on the newer "sealed" batteries than the old regular/unsealed batteries.

Anyway, I'm only familiar with KR808D batteries. Perhaps it's not an issue on other batteries or with other vendors/manufacturers but that's been my (limited) experience with the newer "sealed" batteries. And they are not really "sealed" anyway. You still have to do the normal cleaning routine just like the older models.

Thanks for the reply and pleased to meet you throatkick,

Norman

Pleased to meet you as well, Norman!!

They are automatic batteries right?

You need a hole so it can sense that you are puffing but on the other hand, liquid was leaking into them and destroying the batteries. Based on your description, it sounds like they had to reduce the number, make the holes smaller and change their position so as to make it more difficult for liquid to get in there.

Interesting and good to know. Thanks!

Thanks throatkick,

No; they are "manual" and not "auto" batteries. I think the "sealed" deal is more of a gimmick than anything else. Sure, you don't have that hole right in the center of the threading end of the battery for the liquid to drip into from the carto but you still have that "moat" around the outer edges of the battery so liquid gets in almost as easy.

The draw is "tighter/harder", and as far as I'm concerned they still need to go through about the same amount of regular cleanings (I use isopropyl alcohol), but like I say perhaps it's not the same for other folks that don't use KR808d batteries, etc.

Perhaps they might last longer by it being harder for the liquid to go straight down the middle but I sort of doubt it myself and it's sort of not worth it anyway it the draw is too tight for one's own preference.

Maybe I just need to try some lower resistance carts...

Thanks again,

Norman
