Just prior to quitting analogs, I'd gotten what I thought was either a reaction to MSG or something to do with minor Acid reflux - A globus sensation, which is where you feel like something is stuck in your throat - It is accentuated by stress.

I purchased a 510 and quit smoking in a single day and have gone almost 2 weeks with an analog.

I thought I was doing fine with vaping, but day by day my throat symptoms have gotten worse. I have a constant need to clear my throat, still have the globus sensation, it's incredibly dry and my voice is raspy almost all of the time.

3 days into vaping my lungs were already feeling better, but after a few weeks they're feeling like absolute ****e in the mornings.

I'm 30, was a 10yr smoker, but otherwise relatively healthy - Regular exercise and a great diet

..

I'm just curious if you guys think that these are a continuation of my original problem or are being caused exclusively by the PG vapor.

I'd like to get a check up either way, but fear my doctor knows absolutely nothing about the E-Cig!

Could just be an adverse reaction to the PG based liquids you are using. I would use a process of elimination and try using some VG (Vegetable Glycerin) based juices. Some people have an allergic reaction to PG. Just a thought man. Hope ya find out whats wrong. Would hate for you to have to stop vaping and return the nasty .... logs. Good Luck my man:)

I am fairly new to this, so I hope more experienced folks will chime in. I'm just sharing my own experience.

Heartburn and acid reflux may very well be related to vaping in some way, probably via either extra nicotine, or due to a different absorbtion route of nicotine. I have read that nicotine can and does cause such problems in many people, depending on tolerance and amount, of course.

I have not quit smoking as of yet. I was a pack a day smoker, and now am down to about half a pack, so whatever side-effects I am experiencing are very likely not related to any withdrawal symptoms.

I do have terrible heartburn which started when I started regular vaping. I've had to take medication every day. Unfortunate, but true. If I don't vape, my stomach is much better. I will eventually try vaping 0 nic liquid and see if that fixes it. Right now getting off analogs is more important to me, so I put up with it and take my omeprazole like a good girl. And occasionally snack on Tums.

As for the bolus sensation... Are you under extra stress right now? I've had that due to anxiety in the past. My sympathies - it's very annoying. I would imaging that it could be aggravated by the drying-out from PG. Have you tried VG-based liquids?

Cheers,
Briar.

This sounds almost exactly like what I was thinking about posting a bit under 2 months ago, except for the age (im close), the regular exercise, and great diet :(.

I wound up telling the guys I work with before being questioned about the raspy voice I was experiencing that I had quit smoking, didnt mention the e-cig though. The lungs take about 6-12 months to totally clean themselves out, I had to tell myself that many days until over a month ago.

Around the 1st month, the raspy, embarrasing losing-your-voice thing went away and the dryness issue went away. No problems with that at all at this point in fact. My lung capacity is steadily increasing week by week, I now wake up with mostly clear lungs and a bunch of gunk to spit out :) but know there is a lot more time b4 they are totally clear.

I hope this helps you, but if you think you need to, you should probably see your doctor to be sure its not something else. Everyone is different. Good luck!

Remember you have been abusing your throat as well as your lungs. It will take time to regenerate. Sore throats, dizziness and tightness of the chest are common when stopping smoking even when you don't vape. For me I felt like I had strep for a week. It got better and so did I.

There is a thread about common symptoms and some are listed here:

FYI I have had nothing more than occasional dry throat. None of the other symptoms other people have listed. Take a look at your big picture and dont rule out any possibilities as some things might coincide with ecigs but could just be timed right and be something else. FYI many doctors DONT know anything about these. My doctor found out from me, he even purchased a couple of kits from me locally for family members of his. I have a friend whose doctor tried to tell him they had formaldahyde in them which to my knowledge is absolutely not true. (although it is in analogs).

Point is you never know for sure... til you know. lol

i notice the hoarsness or soreness when I dip into my nicotine juices...I use 0 nicotine 99% of the time..Im convinced its the nicotine that causes it..

I agree with this. I have practically no issue with sore throat when I use 0 nic liquids. When I'm using low nic liquids, I'm a bit raspy and it gets worse the more nicotine I inhale - either due to volume or higher nic content juices.

I felt like I had swollowed sand and needles when I hit I think it was the 3rd week or so of vaping (and no tobacco cigs) Do not get hoarse or a sore throat now unless I have a super vape session (usually when my friends or I get a large order of new flavors and I go over and we vape them till 4 or 5 in the morning lol)

Drinking Coffee or Soda helps with keeping my throat clear and it doesnt get sore at all now. Tea helps with it also but I noticed that if I just drink tea I get the gross fuzzy teeth feeling.

Hope your throat feels better.

I'm also having sore throat issues. I started vaping 9-4-09, so into it 3 wks now. But I also have lupus and constantly get infections, so guess it could be that as well. Just saw my dr. last week, and he had actually heard of e-cigs -- has a couple other patients using them. Although not "officially" approving them, he did say they have to be better than smoking.

I think mine is from the PG -- my throat gets really dry before it gets sore, and it seems like it improves almost 100% if I start drinking a lot of water and lay off the vaping for awhile. Lupus dries everything out anyway, so that plus the PG are probably the culprits in my case.

If rehydrating doesn't help, it wouldn't hurt to see your doctor.

i am having the exact same issues ( well i think )

Smoked analogs for 10 yrs, quit last month and have been vaping ever since. I started off with PG juice and notices my throat was so dry ( no pain or anything ) i would wake up in the middle of the night with dry mouth and throat and needed water bad.

So i switched to VG, no more dry mouth or throat.

Starting last week though i have this mild, like heart burn feeling in my upper chest/throat area.

I do take Nexium daily for acid reflux, but have actually skipped a few days of it but just went back to taking it daily.

i am into my 5th week of vaping and i am puffing on my 510 pretty much all day long.

I am certain this is due to the nicotine. I have ordered a lower MG of juice now and going to try that.

Nicotine DOES in fact irritate the stomach/throat/chest ESPECIALLY if you have acid problems. My Dr told me when he put me on nexium for acid reflux that i need to quit smoking.

Hopefully this will pass with a lower dose of juice.
