ditto on the singing - I had a sore throat and irritated mouth for about a week, and the cough.... It wasn't intolerable, and it passed. I'm a month in and I can tell you -
breath control - noticeable difference. I feel and sound more in control of my tone and power.
Range - my lower register is stronger. I have more "bottom" now - and I've increased my upper register by 1/3 octive.
I have a slight "rasp" to my voice that I "thought" I was in control of (Jazz, blues, rock) - Now? I am actually in control of my tone - overall - and while I didn't want to lose the rasp (it's my voice), I just learned that I can be in control of it.
Vaping has had no negative effect on my voice. Smoking was killing my voice.
I know I'll continue to improve and "push through the wall" I thought I'd reached.
Honestly- hang in there and give it a chance. The first week or so may be rough. If you rehearse/train regularly, take it slow and go easy on your voice while you're adjusting. The coughing and soreness will go away.
Keep hydrated (which you already know as a singer) it will help while you are going through the coughing bit.
If you have a vocal coach, tell them that you quit smoking and show them your PV - they can work with you through the "coughing up yuck" and sore throat period.
You'll probably start to notice improvements within the first 2 weeks. As time goes on, you'll really start to gain momentum and be amazed
Good Luck!
