Hi everyone,

I’m new here.

I have been vaping for almost 3 years now and for the past year I have felt like something is stuck in my throat and I have to make an effort swallowing.
Sometimes it feels like excess saliva at the back of my throat but I can’t swallow normally.

I’ve been to the docs and they sent me to ENT and had a camera put down and no issues.

It’s not particularly sore but it’s annoying and it’s embarrassing making swallowing sounds all day.

I noticed in my car the windows get like a thick lining on them from my vape smoke, so I’m worried I have a build up of this at the back of my throat.
Can someone help or share any similar problems?
I’m considering quitting my ecig but it’s not what I want to be doing.

Thanks
Char xx

Hi and welcome,
What is the PG/VG ratio of your juice?
Are you a nicotine user?
If I vape with MAX VG or VG above 80%, I get a heavy chest and some raspy-ness.
I also had a problem with juice flavored with honey/honey comb concentrate that caused me to switch to 100% DIY. I loved the juice, but my body did not.
Have you tried vaping unflavoured or lightly flavored juice as a change to determine where the issue may exist?

Hi I use this
70/30 only 3mg and I have done since I started 3 years ago.
I use a smok morph. I really don’t know what it is but I never felt like this when I smoked cigs

Sounds like vaping makes your throat dry to me. My only suggestion would be to chew gum or suck on hard candy to get your salivary glands working. Drink plenty of liquids as e-liquid and some flavors can dry your throat.

I’ve tried this.

I know this sounds disgusting.. but it’s like when you sniff your nose and all the gunk goes to the back of your throat and then you swallow.
For me I constantly have that feeling.

Sounds like my brother. (He does neither smoke or vape). He's constantly snorting to clear his throat. He's been evaluated by an ENT specialist who believes its caused by GERD or acid reflux. Sounds strange to me that is what is causing his symptoms, but he was given a presciption for an oral medication for GERD (gastric reflux disorder). Just beginning treatment so we don't know if it helps yet.

It’s so bloody annoying! I’m 28 and I sound like an old grunting man and then I’m clucking away trying to swallow.
They said acid reflex at the docs and gave me omprazole but it didn’t help. Then they said it could be globus but I’m convinced it’s the liquid in my vape

How long were you on the prescription? It may take time for it to become effective. Have you been back to your doc for follow up. There are several different medications that can be used if the omprazole is not effective.

It's possible its the Vg, too. I occassionally need to do a good cough to clear my throat in the mornings after I wake up.

Did you also smoke menthol cigarettes?
I have attempted to vape Heisenburg (vampire and others), but the anise/menthol bothered me.
Perhaps try a week or so of vaping unflavored or at least something without the irritative menthol/ice/anise components.

Best of luck

Acid Reflux is a bad thing and you need to get on top of it and get it controlled before it gets worse.
I have Laryngopharyngeal reflux - also called Silent Reflux.
No heartburn...just the horrible symptoms including spasms where my throat closes.
Take what your Dr prescribed and as was mentioned before, it takes a few weeks before the meds really start to work (your Dr should have told you that). If the first med doesn't work good enough after 6 weeks, have your Dr try another one.
I hope your Dr also discussed a diet of avoiding acidic foods and sleeping positions...if not, google and teach yourself.
Best to you - it's miserable.

I hate to ask the obvious. But you vaped for 2 years with absolutely no issues? And now you post on a vape site to ask what's causing it? Was this a gradual thing, that you felt build up since you started vaping, and it's just now bad enough to bother you enough to ask? Or was this sudden?

If I overvape, I feel it. But from the limited info you're giving, it seems like it can't be vape related. Unless you felt this coming on prior to the last year.

I'd definitely try harder to stay hydrated, I at times get dry mouth also. However like others said keep some of your favorite gum on you, your breath wont stink and thats a major plus, but if you keep your saliva moving and stay hydrated the scratchyness usually goes away. Another wierd thing I've noticed is vaping at too LOW of a wattage will give me irritation at times, vaping too high of course is even worse. But once you find the sweet spot for your mod and atty, and maybe keep a bottle of "Biotene" which helps lube up the throat tract will keep you riding like a Cadillac.

Dont vape for a few days to a week. If it clears up, it was the vape, maybe.
As far as VG lining your throat, most processed sauces and foods contain vg. Its a supplement that some athletes and sports people use instead of sugars etc. Unless you arent eating any processed foods what so ever then vaping isnt the only source of vg going down your throat.
Good luck finding out what it is, hope it doesnt take too long.
