Thrown into a mechanical mod...

Hi everyone! Ive been vamping for about 3 weeks now and its really grown on me. I bought my forst devices from a local shop here in Jaclsonville. To the best of my knowledge they are itaste knock offs or rebranded to represent the store. So far so good, the gf and I have been off analog since we picked up our starter kits.

Now that I've got the brief introduction out of the way...

Long story short I have a Magneto coming my way next week, and I'm a little overwhelmed. I was joking with my gf about how she didn't get me anything for my birthday, one thing led to another, and she took me seriously when I said I wanted to go mechanical.

From my understanding through the brief reading I've done is that the magneto works best with sub ohm coils, and the way to use a 1.8 ohm, per se, is with a kick. I know nothing about this, nothing. I don't even know what tank to get, what the difference between an atomizer, cartomizer, or hybrid is. I'll be doing my research on this pretty heavily but wanted to know if anyone had a fool proof way to hit the ground running.

Any help would be awesome, or flame me for not reading enough before posting a dumb thread. :thumbup:

I would first suggest getting good batteries from rtdvapor. Get the aw imr 18650 1600 may batteries. Then read baditude's blogs. And read up on building coils.

Or you could just get a carto tank and run 1.5-2.0 ohm carto's in it and be happy for now. You don't HAVE to run a rebuildable on a mechanical at all, in fact everything you are using now can be used on it, you may need an EGO adapter, but that's no big deal to get.

A mech mod will work perfect well with various toppers you may have already. Something around a 2.0 ohm resistance vapes very well.

If you decide to try sub-ohm re-buildables, read up on battery safety, (a lot...) and use a multi-meter to check coils before firing. Learn / Read about Ohm's law and know how it works. Read through the Rebuildable Atty section of ECF for additional pointers and do's / don't's and ask questions if unsure before firing up a coil if there's any grey areas....

Not even remotely true.
I started using mechanicals long before there was such a thing as sub ohm vaping. In fact the first "mod" commercially available was a mechanical.
So actually you have it backward, and it's 'sub ohm coils work best on a mechanical', not mechanicals work best with sub ohm .

Right now my mechanical is performing quite nicely with a 2.2ohm coil.

That's good to know. It would appear that all my stuff is EGO, which was really confusing me because the manual for my battery says its 510. Then I looked closer and the battery has outter EGO threading and inner 510. So I'll be ordering some carto tanks pretty soon. Now I just need to find a tank that looks as good as it performs so my OCD doesn't drive me up a wall. Since its the stainless model I'll be looking for a stainless tank. Suggestions?

Phew, this is a whole new world with all new terms. I'm a quick learner but lordy. Electricity is definitely not my strong suit right now but this looks relatively basic so maybe I can wrap my mind around it.

She said she did get batteries, which terrifies me because she knows less than I do. Awaiting a text from her about which ones she got. I'm definitely easing into this. I'm in the Coast Guard and attend the University of Alabama online, so my time is pretty valuable. But I'm a hobbyist so I can make time here and there. :thumbup:

Well, I heard that on a shotty review from YouTube. Something along the lines of "you cant use a kick because of the tube diameter, so sub ohm is where you wanna be."

This mod will be for at home use mostly, kinda hard to vape in a federal building without catching an ear full. I plan on ordering all sorts of batteries, tanks, cartomizers, attys, etc. to feel my way through it. How long does the 18350 last you?

Is a kick needed when you're using a topper that is well within the amp draw rating? Like, for example, a 2ohm carto tank, using AW IMRs rated for 10 amps?

Needed? No, it just lets you adjust it to your liking. All the Kick does is turn a mechaincal into a VW mod.

Okay, thanks, I just looked it up, too. The Kick has circuit protection, but the inline fuses do the same thing. I misunderstood the real purpose of the Kick, which is VW - I also thought they were newer, am I right that they were an early device when vv/vws weren't on the market yet?

itskohler, take it one step at a time. You have an 18650 battery coming....you might want one more so you can swap them out and have one going while you're charging the other. That battery charger will be fine....it's what I use and have been using for a long, long time. You absolutely don't have to use sub-ohm coils to get a great vape from any mechanical. It's exactly as tj99959 says.....you need a good mechanical to run sub-ohm coils, but not the other way around. Anything between 1.5 ohms and 2.2 ohms will give you a good vape.

The only way to go sub-ohm is by building your own coils. That's another whole "thing" for another day. Get your feet on the ground first. Any atomizer or cartomizer you're using right now will work fine.

The Kick hasn't been around that long either, I think less that 3 years? the Darwin came out first, then the Kick.
