Ok I got my free samples in of these regulators and started reading the datasheets. Can someone please tell me how to install this in my box mod? Also am I correct to think that if I put one of these in my box mod using a 14500 LI batt that I can up the voltage from 3.7v to 5v? I am also looking to add a micro usb plug to charge the battery but I need to know how to wire the plug in and where I can get a bare plug. I have an old cell phone that I can strip out if need be.

while it might not be exactly what you are looking for this might give you an idea of the connections.

Keep in mind I have not done this mod yet but I believe it would work and others have confirmed that it should.

As far as box mods go there are enough of them floating around to where you should be able to get good information on how to build one.

Looks like it might work, the power output seems like it would be right on the edge of what you would need to drive an atomizer (depending on the impedance of your atomizer). I guess you could give it a try and see if it's enough.

If you want to try it, you're going to need 2 - 100uF capacitors (one from pin 2 to ground and one from pin 4 to ground), and if you're looking for 5V output, you can omit the resistor from pin 1 to 3, as without that resistor, the boost circuit defaults to 5V output. Look at page 7 of this document for circuit description / application: http://focus.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/ptn04050c.pdf

I can't tell you about the battery charging capabilities by adding a USB plug, I charge all my batteries with an external charger since I didn't want to add the circuit complexity of a built in battery charger to any of my mods (unless of course you can remove the battery charging circuitry from another device and add it to your mod).

Thanks Nuck I picked up one of the Digi Pros yesterday and, since I am still waiting on my batts, I went ahead and modded that like the referenced post described. It works very well, but now I think I am going to use the USB circuit and wire it in with the TI voltage converter to make a single battery 5V box mod with USB charging capabilities. Of course now I need to order a 3AA batt holder as the PCB does not fit in a 2AA batt holder but ohh well I found one with a kill switch for 1.50.

Even the eGo fast charger is nice to have on hand. The corded ones are out of stock but these are cheap and can be used to charge through a 510 connector as the charge port or taken apart to put inside a mod. The cheap shipping takes a couple of weeks (but not as slow as an order from DX). 5 of these would probably be enough for a modder. I got more and the per unit price was even less, but I have OCD :)
