I've noticed that when I vape, I wake up the next morning with a tightness in my chest, slight difficulty breathing, and wheezing.

This is with PG liquid. Once I get out of bed, it gradually gets better over 30-60 minutes.

I don't have any of these symptoms at all when I am vaping. It is only in the morning.

Has anyone else had similar experience? Could this be a reaction to the PG? Should I try VG liquid?

Maybe you're just not drinking enough water. Could be that would help your lungs clear a bit easier. PG can be very dehydrating. Maybe you snore!
But, I had to quit using PG and went to VG 100%, it made me have lung pain, very sore throat and nose and a scratchy voice....that happened after about 2 months of vaping. I didn't like the idea of coughing my way through life again after getting away from a bad cigarette cough. Have had no trouble since then, but you have to conciously make yourself drink 6-8 glasses of water every day, not soda, not coffee, H2O!

I know what you mean.
I get the usual "smokers hangover" after vaping all day.
It's not as bad as analog ciggie lung, but when I wake up, I
still have the congestion and have to constantly clear my throat
for an hour or so before it goes away. :(

This will not deter me from vaping of course, I do enjoy it.

But I dont think inhailing this stuff is a wole lot better than smoking
in terms of the morning hangover thing.

See that's the thing. I never experienced these symptoms when smoking cigarettes. Only when I started vaping. I've done some informal testing -- if I smoke cigarettes and do not vape (or only vape a tiny bit), I do not get these symptoms in the morning. It's when I replace 1/4 or more of my cigarettes with vaping when it starts to happen. It doesn't happen while I am vaping, only when I first wake up in the morning. I'm assuming it has something to do with being in a horizontal position for 8 hours.

I would take the suggestions here, and try to significantly increase your water intake for a few days and see if you still experience those symptoms.

Alternatively - you could try to switch from PG to VG.
But I would try upping your water intake first and see what that does.

I agree with both the water and switching to VG (if you havent already).
Personally, I vape nothing but VG.

Also, how much are you vaping?

I know it's so easy to get carried away and chain-vape, I do it all the time! When I get home from work, I'm vaping almost constantly until bedtime.
I really love to vape I guess!!

I don't vape too much. About 10-12 drops of either 12 mg/mL or 18 mg/mL (more than half of it 12 mg/mL) per day.

I'm trying the extra water. Started yesterday, and drank about 1/2 gallon of water in addition to my usual intake (usually about 1 cup of coffee, 1 cup of tea, 3 cans of diet soda, and 3-4 glasses of water each day). Didn't notice a difference this morning but will give it a few days.

If that doesn't work, my next move would be to move to VG. I have a lot of PG liquid so I hope that's not the problem. If it is, I'll probably try using about 75/25% VG/PG and see how that goes.

Thanks again.

Well, it seems like the water was the culprit!

The morning after the 1st day of drinking extra water had no effect.

The morning after the 2nd day of drinking extra water improved things a bit. There was still some tightness in the chest and difficulty breathing, but it was noticeably less than usual.

This morning -- the morning after the 3rd day of drinking extra water -- I woke up with zero symptoms whatsoever. It was such a relief. The difficulty breathing in the morning was rather frightening and I am glad that it has stopped.

I'll be certain to drink a gallon of fluids daily, with more than half of that just plain filtered tap water. Thanks to everyone for their suggestions...I feel so much more relaxed knowing that I won't be waking up scared that I'll have trouble breathing.

There's nothing worse than feeling like you can't get enough air, it's a panic thing not easy to deal with. I have still occasional 'bad breathing days' but it's an asthma-like symptom I probably will always have due to years of smoking (heavy). I have to actually stop and tighten abs for exhale, stomach out for inhale. It's almost like my diaphragm forgets what it's doing?!
Sometimes though ECF sees a break-through day, this is one! Over time smoking destroys the cilia layers of our lungs. Take away the tars and caustic/toxin exposure, lungs do have a way to come out of that zone, but in order to heal properly and regenerate normally we need H20 to help hydrate that sticky layer and make it easier to move on out.
Once rehydrated the next thing is to help build back lung function and elasticity, but especially moistening that tissue to the max, do everything aerobic you can including in the nose out the mouth deep breathing, every day multiple times a day! If you suddenly realize you haven't thought about your breathless feeling for awhile, it's a great sign of improvement: time to get busy with more lung function exercise!! Slacking off not advisable.
I've seen people report a 'popping' feeling, and a sudden feeling relief from tightness after weeks of vaping. This can be painful. If in doubt, check it out!
Jersey_emt, that's a great post!!

Vaping is definitely a 'take with adequate amounts of water' activity. Mixing in some good old 'Tang" is great too, since it adds some Vitamin C which most smokers' bodies are sorely lacking in and which is necessary to oxidize and trash out all the cigarette smoking toxins from the lungs

Hi, glad to see you got this resolved with more water intake.

I thought this might be appropriate to ask because I have a similar worry going on right now too.

FYI I vape VG due to a reaction I was having to PG.

My problem is that when I am vaping, my lungs feel very heavy and it's hard to take a breath for about 20 minutes afterwards. I have to really inhale hard to pull a full breath in and it's causing some anxiety.

It doesn't matter if I am chain vaping or just occasional vaping, it happens either way, so this worries me because it starts making me feel like I can't breath very well rather often.

So my question is, does anyone else here have the same problem with your lungs feeling very heavy and hard to take a full breath?

And do you think more water intake will help resolve this problem?

I'm going to start trying more water soon to see, but I'd like to get some other people's feedback and advice too.

Thanks so much :)

There's no doubt in my mind, vaping does require additional H2O but should not be a surprise ~ no one drinks enough water to start with. 6-8 8oz glasses a day? Doubtful any of us remember to do that! (I do now, btw) after a year of vaping I know how important it is. Water with meals, a glassful or more upon waking, and a go-to-bed drink. Really your bladder will accomodate, or maybe not, it's ok!
Also, PG and VG are both humectants, which means they act really a moisture barrier between your tissues and inhalation. So, hydrate them from the inside. Both substances are used in commercial cigarettes to ...... mold growth and keep tobacco at optimum moisture.
But you do need more hydration in your lungs even if you don't smoke or vape, they just cannot function as well. Ask any athlete that.
If your lungs feel heavy, perhaps a good check up is in order, or perhaps you are feeling the first syptoms of your lungs trying to expell the sludge of smoking. No more tar!
