Pdib....I did some experimenting this weekend. After the cotton I tried a short wick ss mesh....that didn't work well at all. Experienced too many dry hits with it and surprisingly the liquid kept getting darker.....so it was a failed experiment. I also tried a hybrid wick (ss mesh and cotton combined). Again the wick made the
juice darker and it just didn't vape as good as the silica in terms of vapor and taste. Also the cotton gunked up way too much.
Anyway, the silica is by far the best performer and has absolutely no quirks. It is very easy to maintain/clean and the performance after a week seems like day one. The wick itself has held up perfect. Surprisingly, the coil has held up very well as well. Usually with ss mesh wicks I feel I have set up a new coil every week but this set up is just performing way too good for me too recoil.
For others who are reading this....I think the key is to make the perfect coil using a drill bit (petark type coil where the coils are almost touching each other) and then thread the silica/nextel through the coil. Also don't choke the wick hole....the tail section of the wick should go through the wick hole rather easily.
Pdib...I noticed that you had tried out ceramic wicks as well.....how does your Nextel set up compare with the ceramic? I just can't imagine that any thing could perform better than silica except for nextel. I think that silica/nextel wicks actually wick while the other materials don't really.
