Time for a new kit? - Recommendations? Burning through atomizers too fast.

I been vaping for about 3 years, I have been through a few models.

Here is what I am using now:

Totally Wicked Tornado batteries (Manual Battery for the TORNADO comes with a 650 mAh Capacity)

and I started buying
Totally Wicked 510 Triple Coil XL Cartomizer 1.4 – 1.6 Ohms - Empty/Refillable.
then I started buying
EgO Dual Coil 1.5ohm Blank Cartomizers - Stainless Steel from litecigusa - these are the large capacity cartomizers that hold like 30 drops
[FONT=Arial, sans-serif] the problem is - these EgO Dual Coils only last 3-7 days before they just crap out and are impossible to get a hit off of.

Since they are only about $3.00 each I can deal with it - but one of my batteries just died so I am down to 2 manual batteries and 2 cartomizers.

I am wondering if there is a new kit I should buy - maybe there are some atomizers that last longer? I don't keep track much of the battery voltage Ohms blah blah blah so maybe I should try something different?

I was about to place an order for a new battery and another 10 carts which would cost around $40 - $45 so I figured it might be a good time to try something new. I don't think I want to invest $200 in a Darwin

Any suggestions?

Maybe I misread, but you keep switching terms between "Cartomizer" and "Atomizer". Also, I probably shouldn't reply at all since I don't use the specific TW cartos mentioned. However, in the spirit of ECF, I try to help out. Since you've been at it 3 years, I may not be telling you much you don't already know.

One important factor in carto (and atty) longevity is the juice. It's usually said that darker juices "gunk" things up faster. Overall, I think that's true. Some things (think of sugar solution - don't vape it tho!) are clear and will still clog the heck out of a coil. Anyway, most of the clearer juices seem to not collect as much "stuffis" and clog fillers and coils.

Also, regularly blowing out an atomizer helps to remove accumulated non-evaporated stuff. Can't do that with cartos. People do clean them tho, sometimes between each filling (have a stack and several are cleaned and dried while others are in use).

This is all under the category of "get good with what you have". Now, as far as something new, maybe you'd like to try vv. There are some VV units that are easy to experiment with (like the LavaTube, MV vv box mod, eGo-twist ...) and there's even a section of ECF now for VV mods that you may wish to examine. I"d take a serious look into vv, only because it gives you a range of options and allows you to use SR or even HR atties/cartos and they typically last longer since they are a bit more robust. Of course, YMMV.

You'll get as many recommendations as to the specific device as there are "fanboys" and "fangirls" out there. Not a bad thing...normal human nature. However, it's best to read up and decide on what's right for you. Do you want a separate battery charger so you only have to swap out a $5.00 battery? Do you want an all-in-one device? What about a PT that charges as you vape? VV? Size? Form factor?

It's hard for any of us to know all that. If we just tell you "get a _____" it may not fit your needs.

Good luck!

5 - 7 days for a cartomizer is par for the course and actually quite good. With attys, if you clean them every night with PGA, they will last longer and work better.

If you want to save money and get longer life out of your batteries, move to one that doesn't require proprietary batteries such as the E-Power in the 3.7 volt range. Big difference in battery cost. The E-Power batteries cost around $4.00 each where as the eGo type batteries cost $15 - $20 each. Plus the E-Power batteries are 3.7 volt/1050 mAh where as the eGo batteries are only 3.4 volts/650 mAh. Then there is 5 volt GLV2 which comes with a lifetime warranty and non-proprietary batteries. If you want to try variable on the cheap, I would suggest the EVO over the lavatube. The lavatube has too many limitations, at least until they upgrade the amp limits.

Yeah - I guess I started with atomizers and switched to cartomizers cause they held a lot more liquid and i dont have to drip or refill every 5 minutes.

I stick to clear juice - I mix my own, it's all VG - I'm allergic to PG - sometimes i think it out a little with some distilled water - but I stick to pretty clear flavorings

I used to do this with the little 510 attys - but I have grown used to the mega cartomizers so I guess I will stick with that.

Will check these VV's out

I think I probably just want to get a better battery (like 1000 mAh instead of these 600's that came with the tornado) - not thrilled about the $19 price tag - why don't they just make one that takes AAA batteries? I could stick my energizer rechargables in there 2500 mAh

I like to have 3 batteries so I always have a couple charged to take with me, probably need 4 really.

If a week is a decent lifespan for any cart than I will just get more of the same and some new batteries... I like the size of the tornado with the mega cart - it's bigger than the original 510's but not huge like some of the mods out there.. about the size of a small cigar so it's manageable.

thanks for the response Pops

Im going to check those E-Powers out now - thanks for the tip

With a statement like that, I would def check out the E-Power bc I think youll like it. No PV uses AAA rechargeable batteries, but getting a PV that uses non-proprietary batteries is basically doing the same thing.
The E-Power is an eGo-type PV, like what you have now, but instead of using proprietary batteries like the eGo/kGo/Rivas do, it uses removable 14650 batteries.

The E-Power was my first PV, and while I have a nice VV PV now, I still use my E-Power daily at work and love it. I chose the E-Power originally over the kGo bc I liked that you could remove the battery. I dont like that with an eGo/kGo/Riva if you want to carry a spare battery you have no choice but to carry a second PV with you, and thats one of the reasons I went with the E-Power instead. With the E-Power, you only have to carry one unit, and then you can just carry an extra battery or 2 and if needed unscrew the switch and pop in a fresh one! Personally I find it much easier and the E-Power batteries are small (about the size of a AA but alittle longer) so its easy to carry a spare in your pocket/bag/car.
Also like wv2win said, the E-Power batteries cost only $4 compared to eGo/kGo/Riva batteries that cost $14-20, so thats obviously a plus as well, and the E-power batteries last longer before they need to be replaced. The batteries are 1050mah so they last a long time and 1 battery lasts me an entire day. And like I said above, since the batteries are small and easy to carry an extra, if you happen it vape a lot one day and the battery dies before you get home, you can easily just pop in the spare and be good for another 10 hours.
The E-Power is also 3.7V, while your TW eGo clone is only 3.3-3.4V. Its not a huge difference, but its def a noticable difference. 3.7V PVs provide alittle more "oomph" compared to an eGo, and more importantly handle the lower resistance attys/cartos a lot better.
Another reason I think youd like the E-power is bc everything on it is replaceable. You said you wernt thrilled with the $19 price tag of the eGo batteries, so I think youd like the E-power bc since everything is replaceable on it, its cheaper to maintain. I felt the same way and thats why I went with the E-Power. I didnt like that with eGos/kGos/Rivas, the battery, switch, etc is all one unit and if a switch fails or a battery needs to be replaced you have no choice but to replace the entire unit everytime. With the E-Power the tube, battery, and switch are all seperate and each piece can be purchased seperately. So if the switch ever fails, you can buy just a switch for $10, instead of having to replace the whole unit. Same thing if you need to replace a battery, you can buy just a battery for $4-5 and continue to use your existing tube and switch.
I really like that you can do that with the E-Power bc it def helps keep maintainance costs down. Also if you ever want a second E-Power, you can build one from spare parts for cheap. Hoosier Ecig sells spare battery tubes for $6-7 and numerous vendors including Hoosier sell spare switches.

I would def consider the E-Power and I think its a good fit for what you said your looking for.
Sweet-vapes.com has a really good deal for the E-Power and you can get the regular kit that comes with 2 attys or they have a carto kit that replaces the attys with your choice of cartos for about $40.

If you do get an E-Power, I recommend trying the Smoktech 1.7ohm XL cartos (also called the Ressurectors). They are the only cartos I use on my E-Power and they are awesome and very popular. Many vendors sell them, and I get mine from Crystal Clear Vaping bc they sell them for a good price and have free shipping. Also if you get a 15-pack you get a free drip tip. They work great by themselves and they also work awesome in the Smoktech tanks if you ever want to try a tank so you can go even longer between refills. I use the 3.5ml tanks on my E-Power and their a perfect size tank. I like them bc their big enough that I can fill in the morning and be good all day, yet their small enough that I can still easily carry my E-Power in my pocket with the tank on it. CCV also sells pre-punched Ressurectors for the Smoktech tanks. I use them bc I like that the pre-punched ones have a flanged bottom which stops the tank from being able to slide down. The pre-punched hole is small, but its very easy to make the hole bigger for the thicker VG juices. I vape Bobas Bounty in my Smoktech tanks which is 100%VG and thick and it works no problem. I just use a finishing nail and hammer to make the punched hole bigger and then the VG juice feeds no problem.

Sorry this was so long but I hope it helps!
Goodluck!

Thanks for the detailed reply Rob!

I think the Smoketech tank on an E-power might be the solution I am looking for. The only thing I am concerned about is

1) do you have any leakage problems with the tank
2) how long do the Ressurectors last? at $8 each, lasting a week would get expensive.

If those Smoktech 1.7ohm XL cartos (Ressurectors) only last a week I would probably stick with the dual coil mega tanks that last a week and hold a lot of liquid...

I sent this question to sweet vapes -
Would these work good together? The size seems like it would not fit very well together - I am using a tornado with the dual coil mega carts now - but want to move to the E-Power kit - but I would like to have carts that can hold lots of liquid and fit together well. Can you recommend something if these two wouldn't play nice?

I love my e-power! It finally got me off cancer sticks! As far as carto life, I've only been using them for 4 days; can't talk about that. I do know that they can be cleaned and re-used. As far as the $8 goes, that's for a 5 pack, lol. I got my kit at Crystal Clear vapors. I get my cartos there as well. You can get 15 1.7s for under $22, and he throws in 1-2 drip tips as well.

I also use Boge 2.0 LRs on my device as well. You can get 15 of them at the same place for right at $20, also with 1-2 drip tips.

Be warned: the 1.7s hold almost 2ml of juice, so you get lots of vape time. The reason I say be warned is that if you use the condom method you need to fill the condom twice to fill it. The owner of CCV laughed (well more like snickered) at me when I told him how I was filling them, lol.
