On a rock floating through space
hello all. I have been away for a long time, been content with my setup (80% vg 18mg hand mixes in a vivi nova with stainless heads on an OG stainless zmax at 9 to 10 watt).
But my zmax is starting to wear out. the button is failing, and the top cap is held on with duct tape. I'm in the market for a new mod and I'd like to know whats good these days

Here is what I'm looking for:
budget of $150, I would prefer lower but quality is worth the money IMO

3.5 amp capability. Every now and then I still like a dual coil pushing 15 watt for that extra hot throat hit
edit: my stainless heads tend to run at 1.3 to 1.5 ohm so it has to be able to run that low

Rugged metal construction. The less pieces the better, I'd like this one to hold up

Good regulation and high efficiency. I sold my provari and got a zmax because I get almost twice the battery life. and VW. Though I miss the provari's end of battery performance. The zmax gets harsh when it hits 3.4 volts, no big deal because I carry a spare in my flashlight but if better regulation is available, I'd like it.

18650 powered. all my past mods and all my flashlights are 18650 powered so I want to stick with that style

What's the good word on the Tesla mod that came out a while back?
Also, are there any good new tanks with changeable heads and good high watt performance? I love my stainless vivi nova heads, but they leak pretty bad and new toys are always fun

thanks

I would be searching for a DNA 20 device, no recommendations on that budget.

Nothing has really came out that isn't similar to the Zmax..VAMO..etc that I know of except the 20 watt Sigelei-20W Legend and I'm not certain it's obtainable yet and is gimmicky.

thanks for the quick reply. I would love a DNA20 device. any you can recommend, even out of my price range (say up to whatever a provari runs these days)
And I would be perfectly happy with the same guts as my zmax in a more rugged body with a better switch. I have been very pleased with the performance of the zmax.

They generally run upwards of $230+ currently, the Futura and the Cyborg are nice dna 20 devices.

The Lambo L-Rider 6 is a constant dc output 4.8 amp 20 watt device but according to pbusardo it has issues not firing at the correct voltage.

If I had to purchase a device today I believe it would most likely be a Cyborg as the fire button on the Futura is small and it's currently out of stock.

I just found out about the evolv kick 2. is it any good? I'm sure I could find a decent mechanical mod for around $100..

are there any more mods that are designed with the kick in mind now that puresmoker is gone?

A lot of mechs are capable of receiving a kick.

A kicked mech is definitely a viable option on your budget. Mechs aren't my thing so I will let someone else chime in.

I've been into mechs for a while now even though I'm a new member. I know my Smoktech magneto will fit an 18650 and a kick, and was cheap ($50). That being said, I also have a zmax with a failing button but ordered a itaste vtr based on reviews and design. I'd like to push 20 watts, but it's out of my price range. Found my vtr for $79 shipped online.

That being said... There was a moment where I thought "how hard can it really be to build a DNA 20 based box mod?"

i run a kick2 in a brass nemesis mechanical and feel it is possibly one of the best vw mods i own oddly enough. can be had for under 100 if you get the nemi clone.

beyond that the only other mod that runs/built like a provari but with vw is the semovar. but your not getting that for under the price of a provari lol.

How about a Vapor Shark DNA? I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these (eventually) - after using the iTaste MVP I love not having separate batteries :)

Crap plastic button, wobbly 510 connection and the finish comes right off. It is reasonably priced and I love the size though.

Also not under the price of a ProVari in America but judging from the Semovar reference maybe a product you might not know of - the Dicodes Dani is the new ProVari-killer in Europe.
In Europe it is cheaper than the ProVari, out-performs it (20w in the Dani extreme), batteries last longer and it looks much much nicer. Also 2mm smaller than the already-small ProVari in equivalent battery configs.
€139/$189 for the 15w version, €179/$244 for the 20w.

Lest not forget the Wizard Evolved http://markbugs.com/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=57

$550 of titanium vaping heaven.

The Sigelei Zmax V3 or V5 is a stronger device than the old Smok Zmax. If you were happy with the Smok until the button wore out, try a Sigelei.

Two questions: 1. is there any press fit parts in the new zmax (specifically the top cap). That's my biggest beef with the OG zmax is that it loosens up every time I bump it.
2. How is the button? The original Zmax has a button that feels cheap. No other way to put it. And by the fact that mine is failing, it is cheap. Have they improved on this?

How about the itaste VTR? That takes an 18650, has vv/vw and is very solidly built. If you get the newest version without the spinning wheel I don't think you'd have any problems with it. They seem like a good device. I would recommend the MVP2 because I have one and love it but it only goes up to 5v/11w.
