Hello e-cig forum!
Afters years of going back and forth between smoking cigarettes and vaping, I finally ordered an rda and a box mod, and I intend to quit smoking for good.
After trying many other setups, I decided that the rda is my best chance at quitting.
I ordered an Infinite Magma clone from ebay and an IPV2S box mod from eciggity.
The main reason I spent the extra money on the box mod is the ability to fire a 7.4 Volt Hercules Oil Atomizer (I live in Colorado).
Here's a list of the other items that I bought to get started with RDA's:

ohm/volt meter
24g kanthal
28g kanthal
organic cotton
Sony VTC5's
Suicide Bunny Mother's Milk 6mg and 3mg

Although I don't need it with this box mod, I picked up an Intellicharger i4 because I also use 18650's and 16340's for flashlights, Etc.

I've been doing quite a bit of reading and video watching on coil building, and that I think that I have a basic grasp of it.
I already have most of the hand tools, torches, drill bits, Etc. that I'll need to build coils.

I do my homework, but at the same time, any information that could make my move to RDA's easier would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, everyone for welcoming me to the community!

Peace,

I'm new to this forum as well but we are pretty much in the same boat. I've been doing this for quite a while and I'm trying to quit smoking completely. I find myself smoking one analog a day and it just reminds me how nasty those things really are. Don't get me wrong though. I'm not trying to get on a high horse....I have smoked a pack a day for 20 years before I found a better way.

Anyway, I've recently purchased 4 nautilus minis with bottom vertical coils. You may want to try that as well for convenience. The vapor production is good and it has adjustable air flow. I also have the Tobh and a couple more rebuildable drippers. I recently received the Russian 91% and the kayfun lite. They are good but had to drill them out to get the airflow I wanted.

The 24 and 28 guage you have is fine but you may also want to try some thinner wire. I have 28, 30, and even 32. There is room for all these guages depending on your build and vape style. Oh and I hear a lot of folks talk about what voltage or wattage they use for certain ohm coils but the best thing to do is experiment with what you have. I have heard reviewers say that setting your device to a certain wattage is like "automatic mode" meaning no matter what coil you build it will taste the same. I dissagree and I'm a registered professional engineer so I know a thing or two about thermodynamics and resistive circuits. Anyway, I'll be glad to answer any specific questions you may have.

Steam engine is good as it covers lots of things( not just coils) but I like using coil toy (sorry no link) as it let's you see the coil your building.
I am new to RDA's but love the vape I get off a 1.5 ohm massive step up from the 1.5 ohm kanger coils iv been using. Good luck on your coils I found it a learning curve and lots of trial and error before I got it how I like it. From my little experience good wicking is almost as important as the coil. (Others may disagree)

You got all the right stuff to start out. The magma is an easy RDA to build too. Your wire sizes are fine. I never build with anything smaller than 28 gauge. When I do, its usually twisted 28 gauge. But I like to make big clouds with low resistances on mechanical mods. Your regulated box is a safe way to start out. If you want to start out with dual coils (the magma is designed for this), I would use the 28 with 5 or 6 wraps each. You could do the same thing with the 24 gauge, but you will probably need the full 50 watts (if not more) to get the coils to heat up fast.

For my first coil build, I was actually planning to use dual 28 gauge. I appreciate your recommendation... Confidence booster.

And that's one reason you may get some use out of thinner wire. You could run a dual coil that heats fast and stays within the power and safety range of your device. Just a suggestion. Nice to have options and experiment. The first roll I bought was 28 guage and I added other sizes to experiment. Do you lung inhale? Mouth to lung? Combination? I know it sounds silly but a combination of factors like airflow, wicking, preferred heat, and other factors could bring you the perfect volume, consistency, and temperature of vapor. Experimentation is key. Good luck.

I am so new to RDA's that I don't even know if I'll be doing mouth to lung, as I have been with other ecigs, or if I'll end up hitting it straight to lung. I will definitely be doing a lot of experimenting with coils, so it is very nice to get advice like this. Maybe next time I order some juice, I'll get some thinner kanthal. Is there a particular gauge that you would recommend? I realize, of course that this is just a jumping off point. But it's good to look before you leap.

Good to have some 30 guage laying around. I would not use anything thinner than 32 because it can pop easy if you have your mod set too high. Remember that the main thing you are trying to do is adjust the surface area of heat that contacts the juice and mix in the right amount of air to get your preferred vape.

I was always mouth to lung until I got my first RDA and very quickly got into lung inhales. I now really struggle with anything that doesn't have good airflow options.
