Any Navy man will have seen how mooring ropes are staggered in diameter from small throwable up to big stuff to hold ships in place. At any rate take your silica bundle and wrap about 3 inches of 32guage kanthal around the tip you only need to wrap enough of the end to get it to thread. I make long two and three foot wicks and wrap the one end. Then when ready to wick a coil screw the twisted end through the coil and pull the long wick till you get to the end and cut off what you need. This way you don't have to wrap a silica end every time you coil. If need be I can post a pic.
