I have seen lots of discussion lately about refilling and the use of auto batteries. I myself prefer autos and refilling which even I can admit is not a good combo. However, I would like to provide some tips for those who ignore the red flags and decide to keep refilling with their auto batteries.

1.) This may be the most important. ALWAYS remove the cartomizer from the battery. This is not just because liquid can drip down and ruin the battery but also it can get caught in the threads and creates a tight draw very early on in the batteries life.

2.) Get rid of any excess liquid. I usually let mine sit uncapped battery end down for a few minutes. This way any excess juice will leak out of the bottom and can easily be wiped up. After doing this it may even be safe to blow through the cartomizer just to be double sure there is no liquid stuck in that tube.

3.) Try to avoid overfilling. This can be a tricky one and is combined with Tip # 2. Also, if you are like me I try to maximize all that space in the cartomizer because cartomizer life is the reason why I went with V4L. I find 30 drops for a fresh CoolCart is enough especially if you spin.

4.) If you are like me and leave your cartomizer attached to the battery all day try not to store it for long periods of time with the LED facing straight down. If there is enough liquid it could eventually leak into that battery.

If anyone else has some tips on this matter go right ahead and share. Remember I agree that manual batteries are best for refilling.

Good stuff Robert!

I too use autos and I don't think I've every lost a battery due to filling a cart, and I walk around all day led end down in my shirt pocket. The 2 things I find help me the most is eyeballing the cart filler when dripping to make certain there it's all getting absorbed. As soon as I see any hint of a pool of juice I stop. The other thing is that I store the carts for as long as a week, vertically, connector side down with the cap on before I use it.

I rarely need to clean the air holes so it's working great (for me).

I am an Auto bat guy as well and do refill all the time. The previous two posts are dead on with their method and tips. Don't overfill and DO blow out excess thru the battery connection hole AND WIPE that end dry!!! If I don't let mine set as Lee has indicated (and that is the primary reason behind that...full absorption) I will use a manual pass-thru (old spare) and vape on the refilled cart a few times to burn the excess juice off the atomizer thus further minimizing any drip into the auto battery.

For grins and us really old, old timers, it's just like refilling a Zippo lighter... not too much liquid and dry up the excess. LOL

Hi my name Tasselhoff and I'm an AUTO!!!!
I start ALL my refilled carto's on manual PT"s or manual Batt's and I clean all of my batteries weekly with a tooth brush and rubbing alcohol. I use the bristles to get down into the center tube and to clean the air vents out.

I use a syringe and refill from the bottom up, and if I do see overfill the syringe can be used to suck it up. Then I let the carts sit mouth end up at least 24 hours before using them, double checking for juice before screwing them on the battery. So far I've not had any problems. Just have to be careful. I like starting the cart off with a manual, then switching to auto. I don't think you can beat refilling with a syringe.

Just say NO to refilling using the Condom Technique!

This technique has become very popular amongst Carto using e-juicers and it inherently causes over-saturation. Over saturation leaves juice on the lining the atomizer tube, Carto threads, and causes juice to flood out the wick and corresponding hole. The entire Carto generally needs to be wiped down along with condom which has juice residue in it...all in all...it's too messy and too wasteful.

Whenever I fill a Carto I initially hold it at a 45 degree angle and disperse a few small drops along the top of the polyfill by dripping on inner wall of the Carto while turning it. Once absorbed, I increase my hold angle to 70%, hold the Carto in place and slowly drip 10-12 droplets, 2-3 at a time allowing it to soak in.

All I am trying to accomplish is filling the lower portion below the post/atomizer opening, once filled the juice will wick upwards through the Polyfill evenly. I admit that I do top-off Cartos through the day and leave the Carto on the battery. The key is only using 4-5 drops when topping off a Carto on-the-run.

A direct result of avoiding the Condom Method is cleaner batteries. The threads and the center post ring of the battery will not be coated in a baked-on greenish/black gunk. A wooden toothpick is very effective at removing the gunk as opposed to a say a needle or a pin. However a needle or pin are excellent tools for clearing out the battery air holes of juice residue.

Vape ON! :headbang:

Can I get an "Amen"?! I did the condom refill twice, and ended up with more juice on a napkin and left in the condom than I did in the carto...waste, waste, waste of the beautiful liquid delight...

Excellent information. When I see the liquid pooling at the top, I stop for a few seconds. I then roll the carto in my hands; like warming your hands. This allows the juice to get distributed better. You'll then be able to add several more drops.
I found when I do this, not only can I add more juice, the carto lasts longer...because of the amount of juice.

Don't forget to blow out the excess juice and make sure you can see light through the hole in the middle.

Thank you all so much for offering this helpful advice.

I am relatively new to filling carto's. The first method I saw online was the condom fill + spin method. My fiance and I had a lot of used carts at the time we received our first shipment of juice and set up an assembly line. We did about 30-40 fills that day. We'd fill up with the rubber, and then spin using the cloth battery holder. It was anything but effective. The juice got all over the place, on our furniture, on our clothes, and even in our eyes! I think we even ruined a couple batteries too. It is a very ineffective method and it wastes a lot of juice.

I am still learning. It has been months of using Juices and I am loving it more and more as time passes. However, I do have a question. I just received a shipment of 20 blank carts. I was going to make a new thread about this but figured it would be better here. How many drops do I place in a blank cart, and how long do I let it sit? Here's the method I use: I take a tack and pry off the rubber mouth-piece. I turn the cart to an angle and let a few drops of juice down each side as I turn. I wait for it to get pretty juicy in there, then I let it sit. 10-20 minutes later I do the same thing again, until it seems no more juice will fit. Sometimes there's a puddle of juice from the battery-connecting side, and I fear that I ruined it.

This method is hit-or-miss. Sometimes when I let it sit, I take a drag and I get a nasty mouth-full of juice. Other times, the flavor and vapor is perfect ... for only a couple drags! Then it seems to go away. On less often occasions, I get a seemingly perfect cartomizer that lasts quite a few hours.

Is there something I could be doing better to achieve a more pleasing vape? Thanks everyone, you all RAWK!

It depends on which type of carts that you are using. For wow blanks I'd say around 20-23 drops per cart. With Cool Carts I can usually get around 30 drops.

Hey anyone, I have 2 boxes of cool cart blanks, is it OK to fill them with Wow e-juice? I haven't ordered Wow cart blanks yet and want to vape some Wow. What's the difference? Thnx

Absolutely Max! I love the cool carts; fill em up with anything you like! Wow has more vapor than the premium juices, but I prefer the cool carts in all cases and combinations - just my $0.02

And they hold a little more juice. They do sell blank Wow carts but I guess they aren't really needed then? Cool beans Jam. Thnx!
