Ok, ever since I tried to get into RBA's, I've been having a consistent issue with my builds and it's time I sort this out so I can use all the RBA's I have that are just sitting around not getting any use. I'm a relatively simple and light vaper, I enjoy mouth to lung hits most of the time and I prefer flavor to clouds. I just need some advice on how to make the perfect single coil build. I own a few KFL+ v2 and v3, Lemo Drop, Subtank Mini, Erlkonigin mini, and some Kayfun mini's (clones for the most part). I assume they can be built relatively the same for the most part with maybe a few adjustments depending on the size and type of base.

Currently, I use 27 or 28 gauge wire, about roughly 8 to 10 wraps on a 2.4mm screwdriver, sometimes I squeeze the coils together, sometimes I leave the slightly spaced apart. I usually give it about 1 to 2 mm of space above the air hole on the deck. I have been alternating between rayon and KGD for my wick, not sure which I prefer. I think this is where I am having the most issues. I typically get somewhat muted, dryish, tight hits where I can still hear the wick sizzling after I take a puff. I have tried reducing the thickness of my wick to fix that but I'm still not sure where the sweet spot is. Currently I thin out the wick and slide it back and forth through the coil until it slides through easily without tugging the coil. As for the ends, I've tried pasting them on the deck, the bunny ear method, splitting the ends and pushing one piece to each side of the juice channel, putting the wick directly over the juice channel, pushing the wick against the deck after juicing it up to move it away from the juice channel.... which way works the best? Should the wick be as long as the deck or shorter? I don't know why I can't get it perfect. I can get decent builds, but they are all just kinda meh after a while and I find that my clearo tanks still provide a better vape... at least until I can get it just right!

Advice/tips please? I've watched a lot of Youtube videos on building so I am not unfamiliar with the process, and from what it looks like to me, I am doing exactly what they are doing in the video. But obviously, there is something I am not doing as good...

I run singles with 28 about .7-.8 ohms .9 to 1 in my kayfuns sounds like your making some big coils and they will hold the heat

Personally dont use cotton or micros so cant help there.

Wick should just touch the deck, sometimes it help to take a tooth pick and make a small hole or path through the wick to the juice channel

Betting that coil needs a lot of power as well, whats the mod?

Have you tried the figure eight silica method of wicking? All my earlier attempts at wicking micro's were only so so until I tried coiling around folded silica. I found great success using 28 gauge and my coils always came out to 1 ohm and vaped great!

After a while I went back to micro coils and find my builds are always closer to 2 ohms these days. Wicking just gets better the more you do it:)

That's almost a direct copy of the way svoe mesto shows in their videos.
I only fold twice but been doing it this way for years. Works every time. And the wicks last a long long time, quick dryburn and rinse and keep going.

I use 29 or 30 gauge wire between 6-8 wraps depending on what ohms I'm going for. I also use sugar and cream cotton yarn that I pre boil and cut it to the length of the deck and paste it down. I'm not sure the diameter I'm using, just slightly larger than the yarn. Also, I don't keep the air flow on my Kayfuns wide open. This primes the wick better than a wide open air flow. I don't like a really tight draw, but I'm not lung hitting either. This is what I do personally, not saying it's the best way, just the best for me at the moment. You will find a method that works for you eventually, and you will figure out how to keep it consistent.
Edit: I should also say I use micro coils with no spacing.

I get a noticeably better vape whenever I use more wick to pack down the sides of the chamber. It effectively reduces the volume of the chamber preventing the vapor from expanding too much before it hits your mouth. Don't know if you can do this with silica, but it sure works with cotton. A smaller chamber always produces a better vapor.
