I'm no expert, but I use these and change liquid in them daily, and easily.

We all know that when you fill them the first time you must must must hold them with the head upward (it's bottom coil yo) and don't get up to the wick-holes. Easy enough.

To remove the liquid, insert needle into the little hole, hold upside down and start removing it. As you're doing so, tilt it at a 45 degree angle and rotate it slowly if you want to get the maximum amount out. This makes the fluid trapped in that little space between the metal and the plastic have to move, and it's more likely to slip down the tube. As you get to the last little drops, you'll still hold it at around 45 or maybe 30 degrees and have the little hole at the bottom with as little of the needle in as possible. Pull out the rest of the fluid and go ahead and get some air too, you might get a little more out.

Now, granted, with that there's still a little on the head, but you've done your best.

Refilling or topping off. It's all about the air. I'll talk about topping off as it contains the same elements as refilling, but the issues are more severe.

When you top off, you still have fluid in there and even when you turn it upside down you will still force fluid through where it shouldn't be. So when you fill your syringe, make sure you suck up plenty of air. Insert the needle and hold the carto at 45 or so with one of the wick holes on the top. Put in a tiny bit of air and it will push on the fluid around the head which will give at the top moving the air toward the wick-hole. When it reaches there by application of other small amounts of air, yay, good to go. Push through more air and it should go through very easily. Add liquid, enjoy.

I know this wall of text might just be what everyone else already knows, but it took me a while to figure it out.

(hope my changing of jargon repeatedly doesn't confuse anyone, also my lack of proper names for parts of the thing)
