Tips on re-wicking a coil after a dry burn

I have been dry burning my coils with the wicks in, making sure the the wicks are moist with water when I do it so as to reduce the wicks burning too much. Recently I tried to take them out completely to remove any chance of over burning the wicks already installed, but I can't seem to get them back into the coils. The ends are frayed a bit making re inserting an almost impossible task. So does anyone have any tips on how to get them back into the coils?

People usually rewick with cotton, but if you want to rewick with silica, people would buy a roll of silica wick for that.
There's a braided silica wick that less likely unravels than the regular silica rope.

I'm still very new to rewicking (read: I have rewicked the top wick on a single coil, only, exactly once) and any advice I can find would be wonderful.
For us beginners, would you say that silica wicks are easier to learn with?

Saw some video of a guy using a sliced open drinking straw to feed silica through a microcoil. Was it vapingreeks TNS review, maybe? Looked frustrating, but he was feeding a LOT of wick into a tank.
