I started vaping 2 months ago, started with an ego kit, with the plastic clearomizers. These were great, but I didn't like the idea of them being disposable. Going forward, I wanted something with more of a vape as well. That ego pen lasted 3 weeks before it finally stopped working.

I am currently using a Vision Spinner w/variable battery, which is now falling apart as well :)mad:). With this I am using a Kanger ProTank 2, which gives me a burnt taste, and has since day 1. It isn't every vape that I get the burnt taste, but it's not enjoyable anymore. I wanted the ProTank because of the vape and throat hit that I would get, however, flavor is significantly sacrificed here.

What options do I have here? I am tired of throwing money away on equipment that either is breaking or not good at all. FYI, I have changed the coils in the ProTank, and still get the same results.

Are you having issues with the Vision battery as well? Sometimes Protank 2's tend to have a bit of leaking/gurgling issues. Try cleaning out your tank thoroughly and see if it fixes the problem.

Personally I've had very good experiences with Aspire tanks, the ETS glass, Nautilus. I'm currently also using an Aerotank Mega and it's a great tank so far.

If more flavor and vapor production is what your wanting without jumping over to RBA's i would suggest that you try the Aspire Nautilus. I have a Protank of my own and from personal experience i have had the burnt taste before. If it's been since day 1 then it's possible that your wick is burnt from a dry burn which can easily be taken care of by purchasing a new one for a couple bucks, but back to the nautilus. I have one and it has a 1.6 ohm head and i'm running it on my Itaste MVP v2 at 5.0 volts, and to my surprise it produces some pretty kick ... flavor and vapor production is not bad. The Nautilus is much bigger than the Protank so i would definitely suggest upgrading to a VV/VW mod. I purchased that set up for about $100 I hope this helps you out and VAPE ON!

When I had these issues, I got myself an itaste mvp 2.0, and moved up to kanger aerotanks and Aspire Nautiluses. The mvp is lovely, and the dual coil aerotank/nautilus units are very solid. Your frustration is clear here, and I totally get that. Spin voltage batteries are nice to start with, but you may be ready for the next step; a more solid unit, bigger cash outlay, but far more durable.

I realize this is just me telling you that spending more money is the way to go, but if what you have isn't working, replacing it with something that is more durable, and more functional, is the only way to change what is not working for you now.

I like the mvp (although there are many other excellent mods out there which allow adjustable voltage or voltage/wattage), because I can charge it while I am vaping. One of the hard parts about ego/vision batteries is having to take the atty off and wait while they charge. Another good point about the MVP is it can function as a battery bank if your cel phone is low on battery.

You can try cleaning your protank 2 (disassemble completely, soak in hot water with a drop of Dawn dishwashing liquid, rinse, reassemble), but if your battery is falling apart, you need to replace it, as it is possibly unreliable.

I quit smoking back in December, and learned the hard way that spending more money on *different* things that are upgrades from what does not work right, is the only way to improve the situation. Through perseverance, I've ended up with some mighty good gear, but it did come at a cost.

I have had good luck buying on ebay; mvp's from reputable sellers there are down to around 40 bucks now. With the series of upgrade relases on the market from Kanger, aerotank prices have dropped substantially, bringing them much closer to those on a tight budget.

Hang in there! I'm happy with the money I invested in long term upgrades for my newbie gear, and hope that whatever you choose to change about your situation, works out fantastically for you =)

The PT is a good clearo. If you get the occasional burnt taste, it might be due to too high a voltage. Try turning it down a tad. Have you tried a different coil in the PT2? Sometimes you just get a bum one. Not often, ime, but it does happen.

A loose connection can also cause issues. Sometimes the coil will come slightly unscrewed from the base just from removing the base to fill. Snug it back up every time you fill.

Not sure what you mean by breaking. The batteries you cite are generally pretty reliable and sturdy. I have a few 1300 Spinners still in rotation that are over a year old...

Are you getting a lot of juice down on the contact area? Enough there and it can leak down and mess up the switch. A tiny amount isn't uncommon, but if there's a lot it will eventually create a problem. I clean the battery top every time I take the topper off. A cotton swab, or a twist of tissue works well. If the contact is dirty, it can prevent the battery form charging, as well as keep it from working well.

And welcome to ECF :) We're more than happy to help you spend money

Sorry you are having so many problems. A few questions/recommendations for you:

1. Do you get the "burnt hits" when the spinner is turned all the way up? If so, turn it down.
2. Do you take sharp/long draws? If so, try a sharp/short draw or a slow/long draw instead.
3. Do you "chain vape"? If so, take a primer puff or two before re-engaging the battery.
4. What's your PG/VG mix? Higher VG mixes will take a little longer to flow into the coils.

I have both ego's and protanks and they can work for you with a little patience on your part. Though it's always a good idea to have a backup setup and a spinner makes a good one if you choose to upgrade.

I am not against spending the money to get the right vape quality. I don't have loads to keep spending, lol, but am willing to reach further. My biggest issue is, when I drop that kind of money, and something doesn't work or it breaks within the first few weeks, then I am out of more money having to replace the equipment. I have only bought instore, because of the lack of warranties on this stuff, and want to look at the equipment to make sure that it isn't broken before I buy it.

My protank 2, the drip tip will not stay in the tank, and I contacted Kanger, and they are out of China, so that's a headache that I won't deal with now.

Can any of you recommend a good site to purchase from?

Been using my Silver Bullet for over three years, Mako for three years, Provari for over two years. Same carto tanks for three years. There is no shortage of great products that will last. Hell, my Mako even fell out of a duck blind, and spent a week in the mud at the bottom of Ogden Bay. (my dog found it)

So if you want your equipment to last, buy equipment that will last.

    and that starts with this

I will not use any PV that I do not choose the kind of battery I put in it.

A lot of really good advice here. 101vape.com is a great site with excellent prices. Madvapes is also very good and extremely well regarded in terms of customer service. Spinners are excellent; I have been using the two that I bought for five months without issue (other than having to pry up the head a couple times). Regarding the protank issues, I agree with others here who've said it's either your draw or too much voltage. I've been using protank2's since I started vaping and I love them. They can be a little finicky sometimes, but usually a good cleaning or a new coil and they're back to being like new. If you've got a tip that won't fit, try getting a replacement. They only run a couple bucks. I was having some leaking on one of my tanks and I bought a replacement base which cleared it right up. The only time I've had a burnt taste is when I over did the dry burn. It toasts the wick and that flavor won't go away. I needed to soak all parts of the tank in Everclear to get it to taste right again.

I had the same problem with my iClear 30b tanks and Kanger T3S tank. I got an Aspire Nautilus... NO problems. That thing works great.

I had the same problem with my Protank 3. I ended up rebuilding the coils and had better success. My problem was I would have the power up too high and ended up burning the rubber isolator. Try a new coil and keeping the power around 8 watts as a good starting point if you chain vape, and increase it slowly. If you are looking for a new tank and don't want to get into building coils, the Aspire Nautilus are very good tanks.

My every day mod is the Tesla VV/VW mod and it's a very solid unit. It works and looks as good as the day I got it.

I also had some trouble with pt2, gurgling and leaking and burnt taste. I usually solved the burnt taste-problem with some prime hits (hard draws without firing the battery.) After I got a airflow controller, it stopped gurgling and leaking, so that is also a good advise.
When that is said, I have had none trouble with the pt2 mini, and I got a aerotank mini that is fantastic that fits well with the vision spinner v2 I got (which is excellent batteries by the way).
If you got the money I would go for a Provari and be done with it, a more long lasting mod is difficult to find.
    Good luck to you!

Loose tips can happen to any topper. Replacement o-rings may be needed. Or you can carefully remove the o-ring and put a turn or two of thread in the slot, then replace the o-ring. Makes it effectively a bit bigger, and snugger.

Good catch, Noble. A pushed pin will make a battery not work, as it's then too far down to make a connection. Wiggling it up works. Not overtightening the topper is the key. Just snug, you're not torquing lug nuts here, folks!

A lot of good advice here! A lot of these folks have been at it longer than me, and understand this stuff better too. I know some people went MPV and would never go back, but I have had junk spinners and really good ones I wouldn't trade for the world. The one I'm using right now is 8 months old and working all the way.

There are places I have bought stuff that was junk - and all of their stuff was junk. I upgraded and upgraded and threw all of it away one piece at a time.

There are other places I shop for similar items and those have all been fine. So it seems like if you got something that did not perform to your expectations, you might want to try elsewhere.

As for your Kanger issues, I just got an Aerotank and I had a little trouble getting used to it, but the advice for the protank works for the Aero as well. As others said, tighten the wick, adjust your draw and voltage, but also keep it upright as much as possible, and prime as needed. When it works as well as I can get it to (so far) it has a decent flavor, not as much as I'd like, but not burnt.

I guess my struggle, after getting past the junky stuff I bought the first couple of rounds, that every doohicky has its own quirks. There's a learning curve every time. My hope is the manufacturers address the issues and come up with a few reliable and easy-to-use pieces.

    All I know it this;

Kanger BCCs can be troublesome. I have *many* of them. If you want to rebuild them, they can be excellent.

There are lots of positive stories coming out about Aerotanks and Nautilus etc, but these are not perfect either. IF you decide to purchase some of these, beware... your problems may not be over.

However, if you bought a Kayfun (real or clone), and got it right, you are in with a better chance of success. Put that on top of a mechanical mod and that's about as worry free as you can get. A carto-tank is good as well.

(some learning curves here, and if you can build a Kayfun, you can rebuild your Kanger tanks)....

Day to day, I use rebuilt T3S, mini Protank, Protank 2.... all with zero problems. :)

What do you mean your spinner is falling apart? They are usually VERY good quality? I have the visor spinner and the vision spinner 2. The spinner 2 comes with a full year manufacturer warranty. Vision is usually a good manufacturer. Is your spinner a genuine product? Mine take a real beating and have been dropped stepped on, smashed, and and are both still going strong. What exactly is happening with the battery? If it's genuine it would have came with a scratch off product code that you check against visions Web site. You might contact vision if it's genuine and your having problems because they usually stand behind their products. They should be able to help you if it's genuine. If it's a clone that would explain it falling apart. As they are not made as well as the genuine products. Did it come with the scratch off product code that insures it's a genuine product? If yes I would definitely contact vision and let them know it's falling apart and see if they will help. They are a good company and usually stand behind their products. Hope this helps and best wishes

It is falling apart where the battery pen meets the 'screw on part'. The wires are attached to the bottom of this, it just comes in and out and is really a pain to put back together. I didn't get a box with this pen, it just says Vision Spinner near the bottom and then Vision on the metal bottom.

I too wasted a lot of money of useless equipment and devices. Looking back I could have the greatest of setups, probably two of them with the money I've blown. If I could do it all over I would've started with a VV mod and a RBA. I currently use a Vamo V2 and a Kayfun Lite Plus clone from Tobeco. It's miles ahead of all the 'starter' devices. Yet it's still not as nice as I what I could have if I had spent my money wisely to begin with. RBA's definitely have a learning curve to them, and can be frustrating at first. But once you learn how to set them up, you'll be saving money in no time. I would highly recommend biting the bullet and learning how to set them up. I've had no leaks with mine and can build 200 coils for the price you'll pay for a 5 pack of replacements for say a Kanger Protank. Not to mention the vape is a million times better.
