Very valid point and I've meant to start an entire discussion on it. It is not accurate for sellers to say "these can be used anywhere smoking is prohibited." Says who? The law? No, it doesn't. A private business can set its own rules for something like this. The law, after all, doesn't ALLOW it. If a majority of customers object to smoking, that same majority can be expected to make a stink about someone sitting in an establishment and pretending to smoke by blowing vapor from a
device that looks like a cigarette. And the owner will be within his rights to say "no smoking" or "get out." Owners now facing e-smoking for the first time are already saying just that. Be as friendly as you want, but you still won't be able to e-smoke unless you get special permission. Governments will be even tougher. Go ahead and e-puff in a courtroom during that boring trial. See what happens.
It is like the real gun, fake gun. If little Johnny in his Western boots wants to board an airplane with a marvelously detailed Colt 45 cap pistol strapped to his hip, what happens? The gun looks real enough. It makes bang-bang noises. You think he'll be allowed to take it on board and pretend to shoot people? How about a device that looks and performs like a prohibited cigarette? You think you can whip that out and start e-puffing? Dr. Loi has persuaded some airline crews to allow e-smoking on some flights. But it's certainly not policy -- and don't expect a welcome mat for a customer carrying an unusual electronic device, filled with liquid, with a button on the side! It's laughable to think you WON'T get very special attention .. and denial of the device.
Smoke anywhere? That's a pipe dream.
Now I've got to get to work on my newest invention. It's a capsule dispenser shaped like a Saturday night special. Seven capsules fill a special magazine clip that goes in the handle. You pull the trigger and one capsule pops out the barrel. Really neat, huh? I've never seen one, but it would be cool, right? But using it in public might be cause for pause, just like smoking a thing that looks like a prohibited object should cause a pause.
