My first attempt did actually work but the coils would not glow evenly so I scraped it to improve. I've tried 6-7 times since then but it will not fire. Coil's look pretty good, nice wrap but it will just sputter when fired (like it's trying) for as long as the button is pressed with an occasional E1 error. I've watched all the vids so I'm not sure where to look. I think it may have something to do with the tails. I put one through the rubber, then slap the metal piece on. Very confused because the first try worked and I feel I'm doing everything the same way. Advise or a link maybe?

If you are getting an E1 error on your Provari, it means there is a short. Either your wick isn't oxidized enough, or one of the tails is shorting. The tails have to be straight, with no slack, before making the bottom connections.

No slack? You mean after they've been cut right? Also I may have a case of overoxidation.
Can the tails touch the side on the way down?

You're doing something terribly wrong.

Agreed, but there is nothing really wrong. Just did another one and it popped immediately. Visually everything looks pretty. Which wire is the positive one? I've been reading about many with the problem of the tail hotspot melting the rubber grommet.

Either end can be the positive, when it leaves the coil. Whichever leg you connect to the center becomes the positive.

Can you get an ohm reading? Is it staying relatively the same every time you read it?

You've watched all the videos so obviously you're feeding both wire leads through the head with no slack... placing one through the silicon ... twisting the excess wire off I presume.

Did you make sure the coils aren't touching the sides of the head? The only other thing I can honestly think of would be oxidization.

Yea i get a reading, most of the time its low, like .8-1.0ohm. Thats with 32 kanthal which seems low to me. Clip the ennds of the tails off so theyre almost flush with the bottom. My rolling or oxidation skills must be terribad. Oh well will keep trying, gotta get the ss flavor!

Sometimes though i get no reading on my provari. LO or E1 E4 errors.

Another member here, cnbenzoe, made some for me and they look and work better than factory fresh ones do.
I'll PM him and ask him to share his wisdom in this thread.

PS: Looking at the ones he made for me, you must need to have good eyes, a steady hand and lots of patience.
It must be an activity similar to tying a fly fishing lure :)
